The show was mainly focused on the 2 out of 3 falls match between Cody and Christopher Daniels for the Ring of Honor World Championship, which was the only match on the show.
Main Event Build up
We started with a great promo vid with an interview with Cody, where he basically told us that while Daniels may be a great professional wrestler, Cody is a sports entertainer and since he has joined the company the buy rates for ROH have gone up.
We then had a promo from Daniels as they showed his banned promo from a few weeks earlier, where along with Frankie Kazarian he attacked the crowd for booing and turning against him. Saying that it’s weird that everyone suddenly loves Cody since they didn’t care about him when he was Stardust. He finished up by saying that he’s done with the ROH crowd and from now on he cares only about him and Frankie. This was a scathing promo from Daniels and further cemented his strange shift from face to heel.
Silas Young and The Beer City Bruiser pulled us away slightly from the title match by again reminding us that it has now been 43 days since we’ve seen Jay Lethal on ROH Television. Silas told Bruiser how proud of him he was since they had taken out Lethal with that brutal attack 43 days ago. Lethal interrupted him and proceeded to attack both men a chair, before taking out Silas Young with a Lethal Injection. Great intensity from Lethal here as he continues his feud with the Last Real Man.
In a 2 out of 3 falls match, Cody defended his title against Christopher Daniels in what was being billed as the biggest main event in ROH Television history. It’s amazing how the ROH fans have taken to Cody and his popularity has effectively reversed the heel/face dynamic in the feud. They were heavily behind Cody and dead set against Daniels. This was a very good match, with the commentators focusing heavily on Cody’s shoulder problems of late. There was even a good spot early on where after being thrown into the barricade, Cody had the ref and some of the ring crew pull his shoulder back into place.
We had some interference from Kazarian when he handed Daniels a chair after the referee got knocked out. Kaz wasn’t there long as Marty Scurll came out and they fought to the back. Cody got the first fall victory from a roll up, only for Daniel to attack Cody with a chair before the bell could be rung for the second fall. Finally, after kicking out of an Angels Wings, Cody got the second fall and the victory with a Cross Rhodes to retain his title.
Next week we will see Kushida defend his ROH Television Title against Kenny King.
