With the official rules finally released for the WWE Draft, two of us at RealSport have had a small-scale mock draft to get an idea of what Raw and SmackDown may come out looking like by the end of Tuesday night. One of the rules specifies that Raw will get three picks for every two that SmackDown receives due to the length of the weekly shows, but it’s unclear if it will simply be Raw making three picks and then SmackDown making two, or some other combination of this.
For our mock draft, the first five for each brand were done back and forth, and the latter half was done with Raw selecting two, then SmackDown selecting one. Raw received the first pick, per the draft rules which you can see in detail here. Below are the full rosters that resulted from the RealSport WWE Mock Draft!
|Pick||Monday Night Raw||Tuesday Night SmackDown|
|1.||Seth Rollins||AJ Styles|
|2.||Kevin Owens||Dean Ambrose|
|3.||John Cena||Finn Balor|
|4.||Brock Lesnar||The New Day|
|5.||Sasha Banks||The Miz (w/ Maryse)|
|6.||Rusev (w/ Lana)||Enzo Amore & Big Cass|
|8.||Randy Orton||Sami Zayn|
|9.||American Alpha||Alberto Del Rio|
|10.||Gallows & Anderson||Neville|
Draft Results Analysis
The first clear thing about seeing it all laid out is the clear advantage that Monday Night Raw will take not only in getting the first pick but in receiving three picks for every two that is granted to SmackDown.
Interesting possibilities come into play looking at this potential results, most noticeably the separation of AJ Styles and The Club. Gallows & Anderson found themselves drafted to Raw, while AJ Styles ends up on SmackDown along with fellow former Bullet Club leader Finn Balor, who was drafted up from NXT onto SmackDown with only their third choice.
While SmackDown was able to take The New Day, the current WWE Tag Team Champions, Raw had a run on tag teams with Gallows & Anderson, Enzo & Cass, and even NXT standouts American Alpha. Raw also seemed to lean towards name recognition, managing to wrap John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and Chris Jericho all onto the same brand.
The United States Championship appears to be off to SmackDown along with Rusev, while The Miz and the Intercontinental Championship land on SmackDown. With their final pick, Raw also selected the current NXT Champion Samoa Joe, who winds up on a different brand than longtime TNA-rival AJ Styles.
Speaking of rivals, it seems that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have landed on separate brands and may not be seeing much more of one another. There’s no doubt that Kevin Owens would be a fan of that possibility. This is just one possible outcome of tomorrow WWE Draft, but for all of the analysis and live-reporting on the draft as it happens, be sure to come back to RealSport!
