The WWE universe was absolutely stunned when, during the WWE Draft, former NXT Champion Finn Balor was drafted #5 Overall to Monday Night Raw. There were expectations that he’d be drafted, but no one had predicted such high placement.
Less than seven days later, Finn sent shockwaves through Raw when he pinned former 3-time WWE Champion Roman Reigns in the main event of Monday Night Raw to earn the right to compete against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the new WWE Universal Championship.
Along with Finn’s new opportunities comes a very bittersweet reality. Finn has been the cornerstone of NXT for the last year, and it’s tough to see him leave the home he meant so much to. While Finn is not the only one set to leave NXT, no one else that was drafted had the same impact.
Finn has already been competing on the Main Roster, but this past weekend he finished up his final tour of live events with NXT, including an event on Saturday night at the Revention Music Center in Houston, Texas. What was already speculated upon was confirmed at the event, as it was announced that it would be Finn’s final NXT appearance.
Finn took part in the Main Event of the night where he teamed with Shinsuke Nakamura to take on current NXT Champion Samoa Joe and Bobby Roode. The match itself was an excellent finish to the night and perfect sendoff as Balor picked up the win with the Coup de Grace and got his final NXT win with longtime friend Shinsuke Nakamura by his side.
Shortly after the win, Bayley’s theme music hit and she made her way out to the ring to catch Finn off guard before he could speak. Bayley spoke from the heart about what Finn has meant to NXT and then introduced the other drafted NXT stars who were present at the event, Mojo Rawley, Nia Jax, and Carmella. Alexa Bliss and American Alpha were not present during the tour, and as such were not there that night.
The rest of the NXT locker room came out to the ramp near the entrance, including coach Matt Bloom, to give a standing ovation to all of the competitors who were moving on from NXT and getting the opportunity to go up to the main roster. Finn then finally got on the microphone and gave his final farewell to the NXT universe, and a nod to the NXT locker room and Coach Matt Bloom. Below is video from the event taken by RealSport’s own Patches Chance.
