As we draw closer to WWE’s much anticipated “Cruiserweight Classic” we here at Real Sport are taking a look at some of the competitors that WWE have handpicked from around the world.
Today the man in the spotlight is Tommaso Ciampa.
Where He Wrestles
Ciampa makes his home in WWE on the NXT brand, where he regularly teams with fellow CWC competitor Johnny Gargano. He arrived to somewhat of a surprise and within only a few weeks he was already piling up the wins. His current contract means he can still wrestle in the ‘indies’ with appearances on shows for organisations such as Evolve. In singles action, his career hasn’t really taken off in the WWE, however alongside Gargano, they are quickly establishing themselves as contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championships.
Tommaso Ciampa likes to hurt his opponents, and he seems to approach every situation with ferocity. He is willing to go toe to toe with anybody utilising punches, kicks, knees and elbows to deal as much damage as possible to his opponents. His style seems to replicate some of what Japanese Strong Style is known for with each attack seemingly more painful than the last. He also is very much a submission based wrestler with an array of moves ready to stretch, choke, and break his opponents.
With WWE being Ciampa’s home turf he will be hoping to go far into this tournament to establish himself as near the top of the pile with the inevitable Cruiserweight wrestler influx at the conclusion of this tournament. The problem is however that while he may expect to go far, his first round opponent is his tag team partner and fellow NXT wrestler Johnny Gargano. Ciampa will put up the fight of his life, however it is highly unlikely that he gets past the first round. With Gargano the more popular of the two, Ciampa has been handed a cruel first round match. He may go home early, but his impact will be felt by all, especially Gargano.
