As we draw closer to WWE’s much anticipated “Cruiserweight Classic” we here at Real Sport are taking a look at some of the competitors that WWE have handpicked from around the world.
Today the man in the spotlight is Tajiri.
Where He Wrestles
Tajiri is a former ECW & WWE wrestler, who left the company in 2006. Since then he has returned home to Japan to wrestle with All Japan Pro Wrestling, having feuds with the likes of Minoru Suzuki and The Great Muta.
In 2009 he “invaded” New Japan Pro Wrestling to feud with IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi and legends like Yuji Nagata. He last worked in Japan in 2011 and since then has been moving around the minor indy scene, as well as having a short run in TNA.
These days Tajiri is rarely seen in the ring and is actually spending more time training others than wrestling himself.
Tajiri is a strike-heavy wrestler. With a great range of brutal looking kicks including his Buzzsaw Kick which was his finisher in WWE. He’s also known for an array of stretch moves, including the Tarantula which is a rope hung Boston Crab and should get a big pop when he pulls it out. Tajiri is now 45 years old so those who were only familiar with his early ECW & WWE work may be in for a surprise when they see him.
Minimal. Tajiri will get a good reaction from the crowd, he was always a fan favourite in his first stint with WWE, but he shouldn’t be a serious competitor in this tournament. He’ll help people look good, but won’t go far himself.
