Cruiserweight Classic: Who is Ariya Daivari?

With WWE's Cruiserweight Classic coming soon, RealSport takes a look at one of the men involved, Ariya Daivari.

As we draw closer to WWE’s much anticipated “Cruiserweight Classic” we here at Real Sport are taking a look at some of the competitors that WWE have handpicked from around the world.

Today the man in the spotlight is Ariya Daivari.

Where He Wrestles

Ariya Daivari, not to be confused with his older brother and former WWE superstar Shawn Daivari, has spent part of his career trying to scramble out from under his brother’s shadow. However, he’s begun to make his mark on the independent scene with appearance in Ring of Honor, Global Force Wrestling, and even time as a Tag Team Champion along with Shawn Daivari in Insane Championship Wrestling.

Much like his brother, Ariya’s skill will focus on his technical approach to the ring. Not unlike competitors painted with the same brush such as The Iron Sheik and Muhammad Hassan, Ariya’s approach will be calculated as he tries to dictate the pace of a match. Unlike those predeccessors, Daivari is a skilled high-flyer who has a Frog Splash (known as the Magic Carpet Ride) that could put away an opponent in an instant.

While his namesake may give him an upper hand, Ariya Daivari will have a heck of a hill to climb. He should provide some good competition, but even if he sneaks past Hong Kong Pro Wrestling Federation founder HoHo Lun in the first round, he’s likely to come up against Noam Dar in the second. Enjoy it while you last, Daivari.
