With Round One of the Cruiserweight Classic finally coming to a close last week, the competition is only going to continue to heat up. This week we’ve got two matches to look forward to, and they’ve got got the potential to be absolutely amazing.
Match One: Gran Metalik vs. Tajiri
The first match we have to look forward to pits the lucha libre skill of Gran Metalik, formerly known as Mascara Dorada, against the veteran striking skill of former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri. Metalik has a good chance at a win here, especially with rumours coming out in recent weeks that he may end up being signed by WWE after the tournament.
That being said, he’s got a heck of an opponent in the veteran Tajiri. Metalik will look to control the pace of the match and keep it in the air, but Tajiri can turn the tide with a devastating kick at any moment, and his experience makes him dangerous at all times. One thing is for certain, this will be an interesting clash of styles.
Match Two: Kota Ibushi vs. Cedric Alexander
Both of these men have been staples of the independent scene for the last few years, but from what I was able to find this may be the very first time they’ve ever crossed paths. Alexander made his mark in Ring of Honor while Ibushi spent most of his time in DDT and NJPW, and these two very different competitors will bring us one heck of a match.
Alexander can fly with the best of them, but it’s his charisma, energy, and dynamic work in the ring that really sets him apart. As for Ibushi, he’s almost turning into an enigma all his own between the Golden Star’s thunderous kicks and smashmouth style. Ibushi had a great match with rookie Sean Maluta in the first round, and if that’s any indication we’ll get a true gem from him as he takes on the experience of Cedric Alexander.
