Brisbane Broncos vs Penrith Panthers: Player Match Up

We take a look at a key match up between the Brisbane Broncos and the Penrith Panthers this Friday night.

Ben Hunt vs Peter Wallace

Ben Hunt (2017)

  • Games played: 19
  • Tries: 7
  • Try Assists: 12
  • Line breaks: 8
  • Line break assists: 5
  • Tackles per game: 24
  • Average kick metres: 221
  • 40/20s: 1

Hunt started the season off slowly however he has found form in the two months prior to the finals, most recently playing in hooker. He received his first Origin call up this year for some stellar performances and when on his game, his running and vision terrorises defences. He is a real team player who leaves nothing out on the field, something exemplified by his tackle on Latrell Mitchell earlier in the season with a hamstring injury. Hunt has a tough character that has overcome some big hurdles in his career to get to where he is today and can get Brisbane to another Grand Final.

Positives

A mischievous runner of the ball who throws a deadly dummy, his incisive running is a nightmare for opposition teams. Link up play is a big feature as well and he is always supporting players that burst through the line.

Negatives

His kicking game is still not up to scratch and it often leaves the Broncos on the back foot.

2017 Rating – 7.5/10

Peter Wallace (2017)

  • Games played: 18
  • Tries: 2
  • Try assists: 1
  • Line breaks: 1
  • Line break assists: 2
  • Tackles per game: 39
  • Average kick metres: 72
  • 40/20s: 0

His form this year warranted an Origin recall but an injury saw the opportunity go amiss. Cool, calm and collected, this level-headed rake loves to get out of dummy half and steal 10 metres to really get the Panthers on a roll. He is also a real team, something which, alongside his leadership and organisation skills, makes him a potent weapon in tight matches. A no nonsense player that would play on one leg for the Panthers and pass with one arm if he had to has been ultra consistent throughout his career and don’t expect any different this Friday.

Positives

Has been slotting field goals over in clutch moments for a while now while, like Cameron Smith, he knows when to run and when to pass. His service is first class.

Negatives

Not as fast as many other hookers nor as naturally gifted.

2017 Rating – 7/10
