Group C saw Mexico and Germany as the two top teams to qualify from the group, with South Korea hoping to pick up a win against Fiji and maybe snatch a draw from one of the other teams.
With that in mind, South Korea smashed Fiji 8-0 in an unsurprising result. It will be a good confidence boost for the team as they go into the tougher games of Mexico and Spain. The result itself is a strange one, South Korea scored in the 30th minute, but didn’t make too much of an impression for the rest of the first half, then at the 62nd minute Kwon got a goal and South Korea scored another six goals in the final 30 minutes. South Korea will have to make sure to keep their feet on the ground when they play Mexico and Germany.
Germany could be considered favourites for this competition, and this match was effectively a battle to decide who would finish first and who would come second. The answer was inconclusive as the next crop of German talent fell slightly short of beating Mexico. Despite having more shots (20) than Mexico (13), Germany couldn’t finish their chances, with only four of their shots being on target (20%). They should have some practice when they face Fiji, but must make sure to beat South Korea. Mexico will feel happy with this result and could have a chance to take the top spot, their chance conversion was impressive and they’ll certainly feel confident going into the next game.
