The Chiefs had a good season. That much is evident by their results, and their wildcard slot in the postseason. With an 11-5 record, falling just one behind the Broncos, and posting up more wins than the Steelers and the Texans managed. Walking into the playoffs, the Chiefs were quietly confident that they had a good chance at a decent run. Hopes were raised still further when they dismantled the Houston Texans in the Wildcard Round. Unfortunately, they then ran into Tom Brady and the Patriots and their dreams of Super Bowl glory were dashed. The Chiefs now need to brush themselves off, and start looking at their opponents for the next season, and what challenges they need to prepare for. Nice & Easy
Oakland Raiders / San Diego Chargers Maybe it was the excitement of moving, maybe the management took their eye off of the ball, maybe it was always about next season. Either way, both of these teams finished poorly this season. The Raiders pulled out 7 wins over the season, and the Chargers managed to trump them to the bottom of the pile with 4. Oakland looked genuinely exciting at certain points, but they never really managed to do anything with it, and the Chiefs capitalised every time. This season will most likely go the same way, unless each team can do something amazing during the offseason.
New York Jets New York fell just short of the playoffs this year, after being held out at the last minute by the Bills, and you can guarantee that this year, they’re going to come out hard. The Jets are going to be looking for a major win, and they will be counting the wildcard teams as the first scalps that they need to take. The Jets are going to make the Chiefs work hard for this one, you can guarantee.
Prime Time Potential
Denver Broncos The Chiefs struggle against the Broncos. Maybe it’s their playing-style, maybe it’s that the Broncos know the Chiefs too well, either way they struggle to play against them. This year, the Broncos are on their way to the Divisional title, maybe even the SuperBowl. This will cement them back into the collective consciousness of the country as a big contender team, and the Chiefs could capitalise on this, if they could set up a win against the big boys during Prime time. Preferably at Mile High. Next season shows some real promise for the Chiefs, but they are going to need to tighten up on their weaknesses during the offseason if they are going to capitalise on the momentum that they have gained during this season. A few changes here and there could well be all they need to send them into the playoffs as division winners next season, and show people that they are more than just a wildcard team.
