Report: Chuck Pagano finished with the Colts?

The Indianapolis Colts entered this season with lofty expectations. With the offseason acquisitions of Frank Gore and Andre Johnson via free agency and the addition of Phillip Dorsett through the draft, the Colts were supposed to have the best offense in the NFL and, following a Conference Championship appearance last season, make a serious run at the Super Bowl. This season couldn’t gone much differently. Through 5 weeks, though they won 3 of their games, the Colts just didn’t look the same as in seasons past. Andrew Luck was playing poorly, the receivers weren’t getting open, the offensive line wasn’t playing well and the defense was not all that impressive. And though Andrew Luck was lost to injury in Week 9, this team has not been good enough this year by anybody’s standards. So, naturally, the blame falls on Chuck Pagano and today, ESPN have reported that NFL sources are saying that they Colts will part ways with Pagano at the end of the season. Furthermore, it is believed that GM Ryan Grigson is to be involved in the search for the Colts new head coach. However, Jim Irsay has since released a statement saying: “As of today, no decision has been made with respect to any structural changes within the Colts organization for 2016 and beyond.” These rumours are not based just on this year though. Since Andrew Luck was drafted this team has been considered to be in the same echelon of teams such as the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos. However, they have never been able to get over the hump, especially that of the Patriots, no matter how good they are meant to be. Some of this is down to play-calling and player performance, but the blame cannot be put solely on Chuck Pagano. In fact, the blame should probably be directed at Ryan Grigson. By all counts, these players like Pagano, they play hard for him and they trust him. Grigson on the other hand has failed to give this team a good defense, and to me that has been a bigger problem for this team than Pagano. With that said, it may do this team well to have a chnage of identity. As long as they have Andrew Luck they have a very good place to build a team from. So maybe it is time clean house and start anew.
