NFL Week 17 Preview: The Battle for Twickenham

So, it's week 17, the last week

So, it’s week 17, the last week of the regular season, and the Eagles travel to the MetLife stadium to finish off the league without Chip Kelly. With both teams out of contention for the playoffs, the only outcome laying on this one is who plays the Rams in the UK next year.

Three keys to the game:

Kelly is gone

With Chip Kelly well and truly out of the game, it’s up to the interim coaches to try and pull the team together and push for one last win for the season. Having floundered alongside the other teams in the NFC east this season, this could well be a great chance for someone to step up and take a shot at the Head coach position with some dynamic new playschemes. The question is, will it work, or will they just stick with the system that has sort of worked.

The International Series

The Rams are playing somebody next year, at Wembley, but who? If the Giants lose this game, then they get the chance to pop over the pond, and win some new fans at the home of English football. However, not every team wants to travel all the way to the UK for a game, as these games can have some really unusual outcomes, and players can struggle adjusting to the time change. Which team wins could well and truly be decided by whether the Giants want to travel to the UK or not. That, and which team is better.

Postseason blues

With both teams dumped out of the playoff race, and the lack of a decent draft slot in both cases, this is a bad time for each team. They’re going to be down in the dumps, and this. Could result in some lacklustre football in general.

Matchup to watch: Jason Peters vs Jason Pierre Paul

With OBJ back this week, it’s an easy route to pick a cornerback and call that the match up. We’re going in a different direction. With JPP in his last regular season games before he goes free agent, he’s going to be hitting the field hard. The Eagles are going to be aware of this, abde will be sending out their big guns to shut him down. Peters is a monster, and he will be all over JPP for the whole game. Expect some major contact on this one.

Prediction:

With both teams flopping their way through the season, with some disappointing results, and both teams pulling some surprise wins, this could go either way. With OBJ back, Manning has his favourite target back on the field, but that doesn’t guarantee a win. Expect an interesting game, with both teams pushing hard for the win to try and salvage the season. The Giants should end this with a win, although I’d really like to see them at Wembley next season, Manning has a hard time missing with OBJ on the field.
