Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers This week 14 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys (4-8) and the Green Bay Packers (8-4) is one with many interesting storylines to look out for. The last time these two teams met was in the 2014 playoffs when a controversial decision to overturn a Cowboys touchdown resulted in a Cowboys loss. The Cowboys despite their record are only one win away from tying for first place in the NFC East and potentially securing a playoff position. This should give you an idea of how poor the teams in the NFC East have done this season, even with numerous injuries to key players such as QB Tony Romo and WR Dez Bryant the Cowboys still have a chance! The Packers have enjoyed some success this season and top of the NFC North, but their position is hardly secure. With tough opponents such as the Arizona Cardinals and a rematch against division rivals the Vikings coming up Green Bay needs to win against Dallas to help solidify their position. Keys to the game
- Can Aaron Rodgers and the Packers passing game be productive?
Green Bay has had some difficulty this season being productive through the air having the 23rd ranked passing offence in the NFL. However they have been able to come up with scores when it was most needed like last week with a game winning Hail Mary. Tonight the Packers offence comes up against the Cowboys and the 5th best pass defence in the NFL who have allowed only 12 TDs passing all season. Rodgers will have to be particularly careful to not give the Cowboys momentum by continuing his streak of throwing interceptions in his last 2 games.
- Dez Bryant
The Cowboys offence this season has struggled to move the ball and score touchdowns, averaging just 16 points per game with Matt Cassel as QB, this has meant they have had to rely on their defence a lot. However that is not likely to be an option for the Cowboys who will need to be more productive offensively to remain competitive in tonight’s game, and the key to that will be Dez Bryant. The Cowboys and Matt Cassel need to make sure they are targeting Bryant a lot to give him the opportunities to make big plays to jump start their lacklustre offence.
- The Packers offensive line
The Packers offensive line has been suffered its share of injuries this season with starting tackles Bakhtiari (probable) and Bulaga (questionable), starting center Linsley (doubtful) and starting right guard Lang (probable). Can this injury stricken offensive line protect Aaron Rodgers and help create an effective ground attack? The Cowboys defence, particularly pass rushers Greg Hardy and Demarcus Lawrence will be wanting to take advantage of this and put pressure on Rodgers. Matchup to watch: Sam Shields V Dez Bryant The Cowboys will be almost completely reliant on Dez Bryant to make key plays tonight, but if CB Sam Shields can provide tight coverage and prevent Bryant from seeing much of the ball, the Cowboys offense will falter. Prediction: Green Bay Packers Despite their beat up offensive line, the Packers should be the more productive of the two teams offensively. The Cowboys have struggled to score all season and it will is unlikely they will be able to outscore Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
