The AFC South’s four teams are making roster moves within the first few days camp to compete with one another. They’ve also all had players suffer minor injuries here and there but we’re still only in early August. Still plenty of time before the season starts.
Players returning have been the theme so far this week in Texan’s camp. Previously being placed on the physically unable to perform list, undrafted cornerback Cleveland Wallace III passed his physical and returned to the active roster. The bigger return this week was late Sunday evening when wide receiver Deandre Hopkins ended his one day holdout from camp. He still has not received a new contract offer that he’s waiting for and he also stated that he’s launching a charitable organization for illiteracy and obesity. “Illiteracy is a problem that, if not defeated, hurts America’s success as a superpower,” Hopkins said. “Child obesity is a major issue in America. Diet and fitness is not only a part of my life personally, but will become a cause of the DeAndre Hopkins foundation.” “There are far too many kids out of shape and at health risk. Therefore, the DeAndre Hopkins foundation aims to work and help address this problem.”
Wide receivers in Jaguars’ camp are the ones who are grabbing the storylines. Marqise Lee missed his fourth straight practice on Tuesday. Coaches will remain cautious with him and the timetable for his return is unknown. Wide receiver Allen Robinson made comments that should put the whole AFC South on notice. “I’m not afraid to say we have a very good secondary,” Robinson said. “This will be the best secondary in our division. So, getting that work in against these guys, all the different sizes and matchups, will just make us better.”
Tennessee has officially waived undrafted free agent Corner Back Bennett Okotcha who had a shoulder injury. They have claimed Tyler Patmon off waivers from the Dolphins to replace Okotcha. More injury news on the defensive side of the ball as rookie linebacker Aaron Wallace suffered a high ankle sprain. There was said to be “no break, but could miss several days or several weeks, according to a league source. Wide receiver Kendall Wright also tweaked his left hamstring Tuesday but coach Mike Mularkey says “It didn’t seem serious.”
It’s been all about rookies the last few days in Colts camp. After signing undrafted free agent Andrew Williamson on May 2nd, Indianapolis has decided to waive the injured safety. If he does indeed clear waivers, he will be placed on the Colt’s Injury Reserve List. Another UDFA on the other hand received good news from the Colts. After being invited to Texan’s camp but then leaving without a contract offer, Safety Lee Hightower signed with Indianapolis today. Also, first round pick Center Ryan Kelly is being listed as day-to-day after injuring his shoulder Sunday.
