Harrison Butker was only one year old when Adam Vinatieri kicked his first NFL field goal, but this week, the two of them tied for most NFL fantasy kicker points. The 44-year-old Vinatieri used two long field goals to garner most of his 18 points. The 22-year-old Butker put up a bunch of shorter kicks in his second career game to match the elder statesman.
Do either of them make our start ‘em list for Week 6? Well, take a look.
Start this guy: Matt Prater, DET at NO
Matt Prater checks in as the PK-7 after five weeks of NFL fantasy action. He has four field goals over 50 yards, tied for the league lead. This week, he will kick indoors against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints defense played well in the two weeks before their bye, and the Detroit defense is among the top-ranked thanks to turnovers, but Matthew Stafford versus Drew Brees still shapes up as a potential offensive showdown. No one will skip an opportunity for points, which could help Prater add to his list of long kicks.
Sit this guy: Cody Parkey, MIA at ATL
Atlanta comes off a bye week to defend their home turf against the anemic Miami offense. There does not figure to be a lot of points going on the board from the Miami side of things. Cody Parkey will have few if any opportunities as Jay Cutler struggles to cross the midfield line.
Start this guy: Robbie Gould, SF at WAS
Robbie Gould has kicked in Chicago, the Jersey Meadowlands, and now the Bay Area of San Francisco. He will handle any Autumn winds in Washington DC as the 49ers offense continues to cooperate by stalling in enemy territory. San Francisco will need all the points Gould can give them as they take on the Redskins coming off their bye week.
Sit this guy: Connor Barth, CHI at BAL
Mitchell Trubisky had some nice moments Monday night against the Vikings, but mostly, he looked like a rookie. Sunday, he will be a rookie facing the Ravens defense. That doesn’t present many opportunities to Chicago’s placekicker, Connor Barth. Search for kicker points elsewhere.
Start this guy: Chris Boswell, PIT at Kansas City
Here is another game that should see some points put up. Kansas City has somehow become one of the most generous fantasy defenses in the league. I guess they don’t think the defense is important since they can put up as many offensive points as they like against most teams. But now we’re talking about Pittsburgh. Ben Roethlisberger will get the Steelers close enough for a bunch of field goals and extra points in a wild attempt to put those five interceptions into the deepest recesses of our memories.
Sit this guy: Phil Dawson, AZ vs TB
Times are tough in Arizona. Carson Palmer will put a touchdown or two on the board, but Dawson will miss his only field goal chance as Tampa Bay’s defense continues to recapture last season’s late success.
Week 6 flash in the pan prediction:
The Giants offense can’t do much, but rookie kicker Aldrick Rosas will take what he’s given, including a 50 and a 60-yard field goal against Denver.
