There were not as many injuries in Week 3 as past weeks, but some big names left their contests early. Here’s what we know about their injuries and prognosis.
Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Carolina Panthers
Benjamin left Sundays game in the first quarter after his knee got bent backward on a play. It is the same knee he previously had ACL repair surgery on, but the Panthers do not believe this week’s issue is another tear. He will need further examination to verify that on Monday.
Kamar Aiken, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Kamar Aiken left the game with a concussion and will enter the concussion protocol.
Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Baldwin had a 100-yard receiving day and a touchdown in hand when he suffered a groin injury. He was on the sidelines trying to stretch, but he did not return to the field. The team said they did not yet know how serious the injury was.
Michael Crabtree, WR, Oakland Raiders
Michael Crabtree left the game against Washington with a chest injury. X-rays were pending. No additional details were shared by the team.
Melvin Gordon, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Gordon was listed as questionable with a non-specific knee injury to start the day. He looked good in the first half before being pulled reportedly for the same knee. He returned in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 79 yards rushing and a touchdown. We’ll have to see if this is something that will be an issue week-to-week.
Matt Forte, RB, New York Jets
Forte took himself out of the game with a toe injury, which allowed Bilal Powell to vulture a touchdown Sunday. He did not return.
Darren Sproles, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles took a knee to the wrist while being tackled. He did not return to the game. He will be evaluated further on Monday.
Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee reported that their rookie running back suffered a thigh bruise and would have to be further evaluated during the week.
Samaje Perine, RB, Washington Redskins
Washington announced that Samaje Perine injured his wrist when it banged against a helmet. He wore a heavy wrap on the sideline. No word on whether x-rays were taken yet.
Sammy Watkins, 2 others with concussions
Sammy Watkins and Tavon Austin of the LA Rams, and Kyle Juszczyk of the 49ers were all placed in the concussion protocol after Thursday night’s game.
Other updates: Andrew Luck
Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck will start practicing this week in a major step toward his return. He will need at least two weeks to get in sync and ready to take a shot at returning to the field.
