So, the first playoff game of 2015 is finished, with the Chiefs taking the Texans to the woodshed in a 30-0 drubbing. We’ll have takeaways from the game up later, but first, something for Texans fans. Today’s game will not have been a pleasant experience for them – not just in the results, but in the injury to JJ Watt particularly – but we have a slight smidgen of a silver lining for the Houston faithful: draft position. Picks 21-24 in the draft order are reserved for the teams that lose in wildcard weekend; well, the Texans may have the best of those four picks. At very worst, the Texans won’t pick any later than with the #22 pick, and even if they do, they’d rotate every other round to have the #21 pick in every even-numbered round. The Texans’ final draft position will be decided tomorrow, when Washington host Green Bay; Washington is the only team that have as low a winning percentage as Houston, finishing with .563. The Texans do have a higher strength of schedule – .496 vs .465 – so if Washington also lose, they will get priority. If Washington win, of course, then Houston will pick #21 in every round – trades aside, of course. The full draft order as it currently stands is below:

  1. Tennessee Titans (.188) (Strength of Schedule: .492)
  2. Cleveland Browns (.188) (SOS: .532)
  3. San Diego Chargers (.250) (SOS: .528)
  4. Dallas Cowboys (.250) (SOS: .531)
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars (.313) (SOS: .473)
  6. Baltimore Ravens (.313) (SOS: .508)
  7. San Francisco 49ers (.313) (SOS: .539)
  8. Miami Dolphins (.375) (SOS: .469)
  9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (.375) (SOS: .485)
  10. New York Giants (.375) (SOS: .500)
  11. Chicago Bears (.375) (SOS: .547)
  12. New Orleans Saints (.438) (SOS: .504)
  13. Philadelphia Eagles (.438) (SOS: .508)
  14. Oakland Raiders (.438) (SOS: .512)
  15. St. Louis Rams (.438) (SOS: .528)
  16. Detroit Lions (.438) (SOS: .535)
  17. Atlanta Falcons (.500) (SOS: .481)
  18. Indianapolis Colts (.500) (SOS: .500)
  19. Buffalo Bills (.500) (SOS: .508)
  20. New York Jets (.625) (SOS: .442)
  21. Either Washington Redskins (.563) (SOS: .465) OR Houston Texans (.563) (SOS: .496)
  22. Houston Texans (.563) (SOS: .496) (if not drafting at #21)
