News broke overnight that former Boston College and New England Patriots defensive tackle Ron Brace has died. Brace, 29, passed away saturday at his home in Springfield, Massachusetts. The cause of death is currently unknown but is not thought to be suspicious. Brace was a stand out performer at Boston College, where he and team-mate BJ Raji ruined opposing offenses. While Raji was picked 9th overall in 2009 to Green Bay, Brace had to wait until 40th overall when his home-town New England Patriots drafted him. Unfortunately Brace’s professional career didn’t deliver on his collegiate promise. He played 39 games but started just seven as he fought for snaps with established players like Vince Wilfork and Mike Wright. He simply couldn’t produce at the level New England expected and when Brace’s rookie contract expired after the 2012 season the Patriots let him walk. He got picked up by the Washington Redskins in the off-season but was cut before the regular season began. While Brace’s football career did not go to plan his work in the community was praised, and extended beyond his commitments and career in the NFL. He worked with charities on everything from breast cancer to Tornado relief funds. Tributes have been flowing in from former team-mates since the news broke. The Patriots released a statement expressing their sympathies and disbelief at the news while his team-mates took to twitter: https://twitter.com/ZoltanMesko/status/724368196472590336 https://twitter.com/M_Ryan02/status/724355089356476416 https://twitter.com/McCourtyTwins/status/724319234491334656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
