The Eagles are moving on from Chip Kelly in more ways than just from the coach himself, but also from some of the key decisions he made to the roster. Two additions from the 2015 off-season are already on the move after just one year in Philly. Byron Maxwell, who signed a 6-year, $63m deal as a free agent from Seattle, and Kiko Alonso, who joined as part of the LeSean McCoy trade with Buffalo, are both heading to Miami according the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. In return, the Eagles will receive compensation in the form of draft picks, the details of which are as yet undisclosed. Completion of the trade is still pending the two players passing a physical, and for Maxwell at least will surely also involve a re-working of the terms of his unfriendly cap number. The 6ft 1 Maxwell cashed in on his success as a Super Bowl champion with the Seahawks and the Eagles’ need to improve one of the worst pass defences in the league, but had an up and down year, struggling late in the season against the Bills and Cardinals before an injury ended a disappointing year. The Dolphins were already in the market to bolster the cornerback position opposite Brent Grimes, but the need is potentially even greater, as further rumours have speculated that Grimes will be on his way out if he doesn’t agree to a pay cut. Maxwell therefore might only be the start of a reworking at the position that could continue in both free agency and the draft. Alonso played in 11 games last season for the Eagles but only started once, and missed some time with another knee injury. He lost his entire 2014 with a torn ACL, and continues to have problems staying healthy and available. He does fill another position of need for the Dolphins though if he can finally prove durable. It’s been a busy off-season already in Philadelphia. A new head coach, the return to decision-making responsibilities for Howie Roseman, signing a number of current players to long-term contracts, as well as re-signing Sam Bradford. More Chip Kelly additions, including both running backs DeMarco Murray and Ryan Matthews are reported to be available via trade as well.
