After announcing last night that 2016 top pick Shaq Lawson will require shoulder surgery the Bills revealed even more bad news. Sammy Watkins broke his foot. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter Watkins had surgery on a broken bone in his foot three weeks ago and is likely to miss all of training camp, although the star wide receiver should be back in time for the opening game of the regular season. Watkins has dealt with a number of injury issues since being drafted by the Bills 4th overall in 2014 and while he has played through the majority of them they have impacted his performance. With the Bills not getting quarterback Tyrod Taylor any more help on the outside this offseason the absence of Watkins for the majority of preseason training could drastically hamper the Bills preparations for their opening slate of very tough defenses. The Bills open at Baltimore before hosting the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals and then visiting New England. They will need Watkins at 100% if they are to pose a threat to any of those teams on offense and challenge for a playoff place in 2016.
