It’s four more days until football. Thursday, we just have to wait until Thursday, only four days. I mean, there were promises of a game on Sunday, but we can wait for Thursday, right? Just four days…..
The Hall of Fame game between the Colts and the Packers was called off at the last minute. Reports indicate that the paint used on the turf had rubberised, and was dangerously hard. Players inspected and agreed that it was an unsafe surface to play on. I just want to know how this happens? In the NFL? In this day and age? It’s not like this is a new thing, we’ve been using painted turf for ages. Other people have reminded us of other apparent issues with playing on rubber crumb surfaces, although none of these issues are backed by actual research.
Osemele and Edwards in Naughty corner –
Not to be out done by the Seahawks, the Raiders had their own little lovers spat on the practice field. Free agent signing Kelechi Osemele and Mario Edwards Jr broke down to some fisticuffs after some padded downs got a little heated. It seems that Edwards got the upper hand, straddling Osemele, and landing a couple of tidy little headshots. Even after separated, the opposing linemen came to blows again quickly. They were both ejected from the field, and spent the rest of the practice on bikes, on the sidelines.
Rawls is back! –
Thomas Rawls has been taken off of PUP, and is now declared fit for practice. In a reverse of the current trend of injury announcements, the no1 rusher for the team is reportedly back to 100%, but the team haven’t put him in practice yet, just to avoid any bad luck. Can’t be too careful on the pre-season.
Rex and Rob get the chequebook out –
The Bills went on a one year contract spree this weekend. They signed Brandon Spikes, who was last seen practising with the Dolphins. The former Patriots linebacker was signed up alongside David Hawthorne, and TE Jimmay Mundine. These moves indicate that the news isn’t likely to be good for 2nd round draft Reggie Ragland who reportedly has a partially torn ACL and is awaiting news regarding his status for this season. To make space for these purchases, the Bills waved goodbye to Javier Arenas, Gary Chambers, and Kevin Reddick.
Crawley makes Brees look bad –
Which is a good thing? I think. The Saints QB was picked off several times by the undrafted signing Ken Crawley. Which might look bad for Brees, what with throwing picks in practice, but looks pretty good for the Defence if Crawley gets starter status based on his performace in the practice field.
RG3 starts for Browns –
In what was really an inevitability, the Browns announced Robert Griffin III as the latest QB1 for the Cleveland Browns. Edging out Josh McCown for the role, which wasn’t really surprising.
