Tonight we get back to football, with Pre-season friendlies happening all over the map, there’s no way they can get the wrong paint on every single one. This has prompted a flurry of activity throughout the league, and we bring this information to you in the form of tiny nibblets of information, dusted with some opinion, to chew upon as you watch the pre-season start.
Brady benched –
Alright, that one got your attention. In a clear attempt to make sure Jimmy Garoppolo gets as much game time as possible prior to the season openers, Bill Bellichick has opted to leave Tom Brady on the bench for the first night of football this pre-season. Expect an anaemic looking Patriots to trot out their backups and third stringers for what is going to be a stretching exercise more than anything.
Johnson confirmed out for season –
Stevie Johnson, the WR veteran for the Chargers is officially out for the entire season with a confirmed tear of the meniscus, which he has received surgery for. The Chargers were holding out hope for a late term return after a rapid recovery period, but the receiver is expected to be out for the entire 2016 season.
Reggie Ragland out for season too –
Reggie Ragland, the Bills linebacker was confirmed as out of action for the entire season also, after undergoing a procedure to repair his injured knee. Rex Ryan has already brought in two veteran linebackers to provide insurance for this injury, so they won’t be suffering too heavily whilst the backer recovers. Although the tear was only a partial ACL, it will be treated the same as a full tear for his recovery, which means he won’t be seeing a game from anywhere but the bleachers, this season.
Graham back for the Seahawks –
Jimmy Graham has returned to the practice field this week, after a long rehab from his patella injury. Coming back just in time for the pre-season, the ‘Hawks are taking it easy on him, and sliding him gently back into practice, to make sure that his knee is fully recovered before putting the TE back into the field.
Derek Watt stepping up –
It’s going to take a lot of hard work to step out from behind the shadow of someone like JJ Watt. The Chargers have put some faith in younger brother Derek, and drafted him to Full back this year, in an attempt to back up their weak running game. In his first year for the Chargers, Watt has got a lot of expectation piled up on his shoulders. Not only is he expected to step in to the NFL and replicate the level of output his brother lays down on the Defensive side of the ball, but pairing off with Melvin Gordon – the running back who he teamed up with in Wisconsin – means that the level of productivity they had previously is expected to mirror what they bring to the NFL.
Brown nearly kicked out of practice –
Steelers star receiver, Antonio Brown was close to being ejected from a joint practice session. According to the line judge being used on the practice, his behaviour was so bad, that it would have seen him ejected from the field during a regular season game. I know things can get heated out there, but this is going up the chain to the league office. Not a good thing, plus I really want to know what he did!
