BREAKING NEWS: Titans trade #1 overall pick to Rams

The Rams return to Los Angeles looks like it will be kicking off with a bang. News has just broken that they have traded with the Tennessee Titans for the #1 overall pick in this years draft, sending This year’s 1st round pick (#15), their two second rounders (#43 & #45), a third round selection (#76) as well as their first and third round selection in 2017. In return the Rams are getting the #1 pick, #113 and #177. So the immediate question is why? Well the only answer that makes sense is that the Rams front office has fallen in love with one of the quarterbacks. Selecting at #15 there was absolutely no guarantee that Carson Wentz, Jared Goff or Paxton Lynch – the top 3 names at quarterback this year – would be available. Our draft expert Rebecca Rennie is confident this trade up is specifically for Carson Wentz: “[Carson] Wentz is my top QB in this class, and multiple reports have suggested he is higher on many teams’ boards over [Jared] Goff. He is the most likely target for the Rams at #1” For Rams fans this trade must bring up mixed feeling. They moved out of the #2 pick in 2012 for an even larger haul of picks from the Redskins (who would select Robert Griffin III). The Rams have turned those picks into an immensely talented defense and some good pieces on offense, but the lack of a quality signal caller has always capped their potential. Now the Rams are the team giving up a king’s ransom for the “franchise quarterback” – It didn’t go well for the Redskins, how will it go for the Rams? For the Titans this trade is fantastic. Having drafted their own franchise quarterback last year they had a lot of options at #1. While moving down will prevent them taking the top talents like a Laremy Tunsil or Jalen Ramsey this years draft has a lot of defensive talent and a good crop of offensive tackles who will be available lower down. The multiple 2nd round picks will let them add depth to a very thin roster and a good draft weekend could put them in position to compete in the wide open AFC South immediately.
