2016 NFL Draft: Round 5, Picks 164-169 grades & analysis

Pick 164 (Round 5, Pick 27) - Philadelphia Eagles select Halapoulivaati Vaitai, OT, TCUPick analysis:

Pick 164 (Round 5, Pick 27) – Philadelphia Eagles select Halapoulivaati Vaitai, OT, TCU

Pick analysis: Vaitai is now a member of the Eagles and arrives at a team with an injury prone QB and a rookie QB, they need all the protection they can get. Player analysis: Vaitai has size, in particularly with arm length, and moves surprisingly well.  However, he is vulnerable to both strength and speed.  His hands don’t have the necessary power to win regularly enough, and he was left chasing too often by speedy undersized edge rushers.  As a run blocker, there’s also inconsistencies, including getting off balance too often, that leads to ending up on the ground a bit too much.  He’s been a solid starter for the Horned Frogs for a while, but may struggle with the transition to the next level.  There’s also the possibility of converting inside to guard perhaps. Grade: C+

Pick 165 (Round 5, Pick 28) – Kansas City Chiefs select Tyreek Hill, RB, Western Alabama

Pick analysis: With the injuries to Charles in recent years, he needs someone to help his workload, Hill is being brought in to help with this. Player analysis: Tyreek Hill was not considered a draftable prospect by the RealSport team. Grade: C+

Pick 166 (Round 5, Pick 29) – Houston Texans select DJ Reader, DT, Clemson

Pick analysis: Another Clemson lineman has gone in this draft and they get an interior lineman ready to help across that line. Player analysis: DJ Reader was our 30th-ranked defensive lineman in this year’s draft. Grade: C+

Pick 167 (Round 5, Pick 30) – Arizona Cardinals select Marqui Christian, S, Midwestern State

Pick analysis: After losing Mathieu at the end of the year last year to injury, the Cardinals bring in a safety in the hopes of stopping his workload becoming too much. Player analysis: Marqui Christian was our 55th-ranked safety in this year’s draft. Grade: C

Pick 168 (Round 5, Pick 31) – Cleveland Browns select Spencer Drango, OT, Baylor

Pick analysis: The offensive line was decimated in the offseason, Drango begins to help rebuild it. Player analysis: A four-year starter at left tackle, he’s held up very well for the Bears on the blindside. He generally looks very comfortable out there with the size to handle bull rushes and while not overly mobile, has handled speed rushers well enough to buy his usually mobile quarterbacks enough time. Still, it’ll be a little more difficult continuing at tackle in the pros in a very different system than the Bears run, and looks a better fit inside. He is heavy but also not that well distributed with some bad weight and a loose build. He’s noticeably quite top heavy which isn’t ideal. While he might not have the athleticism to ideally fit at tackle, he should make a dependable guard. The movement might be average, but technically Drango is very solid and co-ordinated between upper and lower body, and uses his hands well to punch with good power. Drango looked great in Baylor’s bowl victory over North Carolina in his final game for the school. Though he was doing so from the left tackle spot, he really showcased his ability as a pulling lineman when run blocking, a skill that will translate to the interior at the next level. In the win, Drango continually was instrumental in opening up big holes for the many ball carriers the Bears were using that day, including directly for two rushing touchdowns. This is a very smart player who brings excellent awareness and composure to the position, who might offer some depth at right tackle as well. Grade: B+

Pick 169 (Round 5, Pick 32) – Detroit Lions select Antwione Williams, LB, Georgia Southern

Pick analysis: Williams is great for production and the Lions defence need production. He can contribute day 1. Player analysis: Antwione Williams is our 26th-ranked linebacker in this year’s draft. Grade: C-
