Vernon Hargreaves is one of the top two corners in this draft and for good reason too. He has football in his blood as his father was a player and now coach’s college Linebackers, so clearly the family can ball. Highly sought after out of high school, his talent was apparent early as he started as a true freshman. He was All-SEC in each of his three years, and all American his final two. Hargreaves is primed to take the league by storm. Hargreaves is first and foremost a baller. He comes to play every down and has the persona and swagger to back it up. The confidence is real and he truly believes in his abilities. He isn’t scared of the big names, and will happily play one on one in isolated coverage. He is best in man coverage, however he can play press man and zone just as well, and doesn’t struggle lining up inside or outside. He is fluid and sticky in coverage, and due to his awareness he is always close to make a play. His instincts are his top attribute and coupled with his anticipation make him a big play threats on every play. He plays bigger than he is and his closing speed means even if beaten he will limit the big play. He hits hard too, something not many corners do now. All in all he is a top prospect, who is ready to go. It is hard to find many limitations in Hargreaves’ game. He is a little short for the position, which may run him into trouble with some of the big athletic players. He also sometimes can take bad angles in the tackle, results in some missed tackles. If these are his only weaknesses then he is going to attract teams early and often. In terms of visits, Hargreaves has only compiled four, however all have been private workouts. These visits have been with the Buccaneers, the Cowboys, the Jaguars and the Ravens. While this might seem underwhelming, it is very telling that teams outside the top ten haven’t even bothered to visit with him. This is because they know that he is not leaving the top 10 without being picked. With corner being such a premium in this league, it wouldn’t be a surprise for Hargreaves to go in the top five. While teams debate between him and Ramsey as the top corner in the draft, don’t expect Hargreaves to get past the Ravens and their 6th pick.
