I’m never going to speak ill of a team who concentrate on building from the trenches out, especially when they have been as poor as Detroit have been. Taylor Decker should be able to step in and replace the turnstile they had at right tackle last year. He’s not a perfect prospect but Decker does everything well and has a nastiness about his run blocking that I love and he will provide much improved pass protection for Matthew Stafford. A’Shawn Robinson is another of this deep defensive tackle class that we had with a first round grade, so getting him in the second round is a nice bonus for the Lions, who need to restock that position after losing Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley recently. Robinson is a big guy with all the lower body strength you could want. He can destroy one on one blocks and has enough athleticism to give backside chase on the ball. He doesn’t add too much as a pass rusher but right now that is perfect for the Lions as they need to get bigger and tougher against the run. The addition of 2 further interior offensive linemen in Graham Glasgow and Joe Dahl shows the Lions really want to get better along both lines and that is something that I love – and no doubt Stafford and the running backs love as well. Miles Killebrew is a big hitting machine. He may have to come down and play linebacker a little bit in the NFL but that shouldn’t be any problem for Killebrew. Using a pick on a long snapper isn’t usually my favourite thing, but it’s not enough to bring this whole class down too much.
