Prominent rapper Lil B has made the decision to lift the curse on Kevin Durant after the forward chose to move to the Golden State Warriors, the rapper’s hometown team.
Originally the curse was applied in 2010 after Kevin Durant tweeted:
I tried to listen to Lil B and my mind wouldn’t let me do it….can’t believe this guy is relevant
— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) 29 January 2011
Lil B responded furiously, stating:
KEVIN DURANT WILL NEVER WIN THE TITLE AFTER HE SAID “LIL B” IS A WACK RAPPER,
“THE BASEDGODS CURSE”#THEBASEDGODSCURSE ON DURANT – Lil B

Initially seen by many as a joke, it gradually turned into reality as Kevin Durant failed at every attempt at winning his first ring. The majority blamed injuries and a lack of cohesion with teammate Russell Westbrook as the reason for his shortcomings. However there was no getting away from the curse, constantly being alluded to in the face of the Oklahoma City Thunder breaking down in the latter stages of each and every season to date.
The feud escalated online with the twitter-verse in Oklahoma begging Durant to forgive the Based God and put the disagreement behind him. But Durant didn’t listen, telling the Californian rapper to keep quiet and leave him alone.
Unsurprisingly he didn’t. In 2014 Lil B released a song about Durant, calling him out numerous times and proclaiming his own ability to play the game.
But things have changed. After Kevin Durant’s announcement that he will be playing for the Golden State Warriors, the Based God is finally satisfied, lifting the curse from the back of the former MVP:
“The BasedGod” wants to speak,As life unravels and superstars make decisions that change lifes, welcome home KD the curse is lifted – Lil B
