The Cleveland Cavaliers have now done what no team has done in NBA History – they came back from a 3 games to 1 deficit to win their first NBA Title. 32 other teams before them tried and 32 failed. This championship is bigger than just the game of basketball. The Cavaliers won a ring for Northeast Ohio, where I am personally from. I was not born there but lived there since I was 14 years old and I’ve lived in the state of Ohio my whole life off and on. The city of Cleveland had not won a championship in any major professional sport since 1964! The last team that won was the Cleveland Browns and the championship they won wasn’t even a Super Bowl as this was the pre-Super Bowl era. LeBron James clearly stated that he was coming back home from Miami in 2014 to win a championship for the city of Cleveland, Northeast Ohio and the state of Ohio as a whole. He accomplished his goal with a 93-89 victory over a tough and gritty Golden State Warriors team. Now the talk comes is if the Cleveland Cavaliers can repeat as champions next season. For now the Cavaliers and all of the fans will enjoy this sweet victory. LeBron James led the team with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as he recorded his seventh career NBA Finals Triple-Double. James also won his third NBA championship (first with the Cavaliers) and won his third NBA Finals MVP award. Kyrie Irving also played great offensively recording 26 points while J.R. Smith chipped in with 12 points. It was Irving’s 3 point shot with the game tied at 89-89 in the final two minutes of play that put Cleveland ahead for good. Now comes time for the celebration. Cleveland, we really did it!!! Flourish!
