UFC Fight Night 114: Everything you need to know

Want to be ready for when the UFC returns to Mexico City this weekend for UFC Fight Night 114? We've got you.

The UFC travels to Mexico City, Mexico on August 5th for UFC Fight Night 114. The card is lacking in established names, but that’s to be expected as the event takes place just one week after star-studded UFC 214. So, if you’re a hardcore MMA fan or you want to cheer on your favourite Mexican fighters, you’re going to want to be prepared for this event.

The Main Card

Sergio Pettis vs Brandon Moreno

The headline bout is an intriguing contest between two promising UFC flyweight prospects. Sergio Pettis (15-2) will travel to Mexico to face fan favourite Brandon Moreno (14-3) in a fight that could move either of these fighters within range of a title shot with UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson. Pettis enters this one on the back of a three win streak that includes an impressive unanimous decision victory over John Moraga at UFC Fight Night 103. Brandon Moreno undefeated streak of five years almost came to an end at the hands of Dustin Ortiz after being out-wrestled through the early stages. Moreno ended up driving a left high kick into Ortiz’s face that changed the fight completely, and Moreno went on to win via rear-naked choke in the second round.

Randa Markos vs Alexa Grasso

The co-main event will feature one of Mexico’s greatest young mixed martial artists, Alexa Grasso. 23-year-old Alexa Grasso will meet Randa Markos in a women’s strawweight contest. After entering the UFC with a decisive win over Heather Clark, Grasso dropped a unanimous decision to Felice Herrig in February this year. Randa Markos is coming off an impressive, and somewhat surprising, victory over Carla Esparza at UFC Fight Night 105.

Alan Jouban vs Niko Price

Also on the main card, Alan Jouban has an opportunity to bounce back after losing to Gunnar Nelson at UFC Fight Night 107. Jouban will face Niko Price, who has looked to be an extraordinary talent in the UFC’s welterweight division after scoring consecutive victories against Brandon Thatch and Alex Morono. Unfortunately for Niko Price, his victory against Morono was later overturned as he and two others tested positive for marijuana after UFC Fight Night 104.

Martin Bravo vs Humberto Bandenay

The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America Season 3 winner Martin Bravo will be competing against UFC newcomer Humberto Bandenay. Bandenay makes his promotional debut as he replaces Chris Gruetzemacher on short notice. Both Bravo and Bandenay are finishers, and this should be a genuinely entertaining war.

Rashad Evans vs Sam Alvey

Strangely enough, two of the ‘bigger names’ of the card are buried deep in the main card. Rashad Evans has fallen from the very top of the UFC and now finds himself fighting to keep his spot in the UFC after losing three consecutive fights. He will stand against the mighty fists of Smilin’ Sam Alvey this weekend at UFC Fight Night 114.

Alejandro Perez vs Andre Soukhamthath

Getting the main card started is a bantamweight fight between Alejandro Perez and Andre Soukhamthath. Soukhamthath lost a split decision against Albert Morales in his UFC debut but began to find his range and timing once he overcame the ‘octagon jitters’. He’ll be hoping to carry his closing moments into the fight with Perez who is an ever dangerous striker.
