Michael Page begins boxing career with venomous knockout

‘I’ve kicked in the door on this boxing game, but it’s the last bit of kicking I’ll do.’

Michael ‘Venom’ Page (MVP) is a household name amongst fans of mixed martial arts. Throughout a prosperous career, filled with knockouts worthy of a highlight reel alongside a confident and eccentric persona holding a perfect record which saw him rack up 12 wins and zero losses in the octagon, the world of combat sports was both shocked and excited when he announced his professional boxing debut, on David Haye’s Hayemaker promotion card. Page, who alongside mixed martial arts is also a former kickboxing champion, brings a peculiar and unpredictable style into any form of combat, which showed in his debut knockout performance against seasoned Spaniard Jonathan Castano.

Crisp jabs the order of the day

Page began the bout with his usual unconventional and affective style, using his reach to his advantage, and crisp jab to keep his Spanish opponent at bay. The opening round saw the former MMA star land at will while taunting his opponent while feeling Castano and sizing his man up.

The second began much like the first, with Page's coach telling him before the start of the round " You're having fun out there." MVP seemed to step those levels up by dancing around his opponent and landing clean shots at will, forcing Castano to tie Page up in a desperate attempt for the Spaniard to stay on his feet.

The end of the fight came inside of the third and was a trademark finish by the Brit. Using his range for his setup, Page landed a thunderous and clean right hand on his Spanish foe, landing onto the ropes and charismatically celebrating his win long before the referee count, to an arena full of stunned and screaming fans.

It is clear from his devastating knockout of an experienced and solid opponent that Page has answered questions from critics on whether he can adapt his skills to the sweet science and transfer his charismatic personality and fighting style from the octagon into the squared circle.

His knockout win tonight has answered the question which critics had about his boxing skills, but many are now wondering what is next for MVP in the world of boxing? Page has made his debut in a division filled with mouthwatering matchups for his taking in 2018. The hype around the multi-talented warrior is only growing with his exciting entrance into the squared circle, but with a reputation as widespread as MVP's, there will be no shortage of challengers after tonight's finish and mark on the sport of boxing!
