Boxing’s Friday Five: 5 things to look out for this weekend

Let's look at what should be on your boxing radar this weekend.

It’s finally Friday, the work week is over and you get to unwind with the ‘sweet science’. Here are the top five things you should look out for this weekend in the world of boxing.

  1. 1 Saturday: Chris Eubank Jr. vs Avni Yildirim

This weekend, the World Boxing Super Series heads to Germany for the quarterfinal bout between IBO super middleweight champion, Chris Eubank Jr. (25-1) and Turkish swarmer Avni Yildirim (16-0).

Look for fireworks in this one because things got heated between the camps during a press conference Wednesday evening after Yildirim's trainer went on a foul-mouthed rant and threatened Eubank's camp.

  2. 2 Saturday: Anthony Crolla vs Ricky Burns

Both Anthony Crolla (31-6-3) and Ricky Burns (41-6-1) are looking to bounce back after losses this weekend. The winner of this interesting bout will be back in the running for a lightweight belt.

  3. 3 Saturday: Sam Eggington vs Mohamed Mimoune

British welterweight champion, Sam Eggington, (21-3) puts his belt and a four-fight knockout streak on the line when he battles Mohamed "The Problem" Mimoune (18-2) - a lanky southpaw from France.

  4. 4 Saturday: Andrew Selby vs Maximino Flores

Upstart, undefeated flyweight, Andrew Selby, (9-0) (brother of IBF featherweight champ Lee Selby) takes on Maximino Flores (23-3-1) in a WBC eliminator.

  5. 5 Saturday: 'Bleed For This' premiers on SHOWTIME

The inspirational film about former lightweight and junior middleweight champion Vinny Paz, starring Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart premiers on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET.
