ALDS Game 2 Preview: New York Yankees vs Cleveland Indians

Trevor Bauer kept the Yankees bats silent and it won't get any easier for the Yankees as they look to get back in the series with Corey Kluber on the mound for Cleveland.

In Game 1 of the ALDS, the Cleveland Indians showed why they are the favorites to win it all this season as they beat the young Yankees 4-0.

Trevor Bauer absolutely dominated the Yankee lineup as he held them hitless through the sixth inning until Aaron Hicks lined a ball of the left field wall. The performance of Bauer to put rest any questions as to why the Tribe didn’t start ace Corey Kluber in Game 1. Jay Bruce showed how dangerous of a hitter he could be as he had some big hits off Yankee starter Sonny Gray.

Game 2 Starters: C.C. Sabathia (LHP) vs. Corey Kluber (RHP)

C.C. Sabathia has saved his career over the last two seasons serving as a serviceable starter in the rotation after it looked like his career was over. Sabathia finished the season 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA, in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays, Sabathia didn’t allow a run 5.2 innings In his 17-year career, Sabathia holds a 4.53 ERA in 107.1 playoff innings. He will be looking to get the Yankees back in the series as they head back to New York Sunday.

Corey Kluber will most likely win the CY Young Award after the type of season he put up. Kluber finished the year 18-4 with a 2.25 ERA and absolutely dominated the league. In two starts against the Yankees this year, Kluber allowed two runs in 17 innings. The Indians have a real advantage being able to throw out two starters with no-hit stuff and that is exactly what Kluber has. Kluber posts a 1.83 ERA in six postseason starts.

Who’s hot and who’s not

Jacoby Ellsbury holds the highest average against Kluber on the Yankees which is why he will see himself inserted back in the lineup as the Yankees look to finally crack the scoreboard against a tough opponent in Kluber. Ellsbury has .263 average against Kluber in 19 at-bats, only two other Yankees have a batting average over .200 against Kluber, Brett Gardner (.211) and Gary Sanchez (.222).

Jay Bruce dominated the Yankees at the plate in Game 1 going 2 for 3 with a big two-run home run. Bruce has been swinging a hot bat since being traded to the Indians and despite not having great numbers against Sabathia, in only three at-bats, Bruce will see at-bats as the Indians look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.

Three Indians have batting averages over .500 against Sabathia: Carlos Santana (.563), Francisco Lindor (.556), Jose Ramirez (.500) and two members of the tribe have a batting average over .300 against the veteran lefty.

Prediction: Indians 5-1 Yankees

The Indians have great numbers off of C.C. Sabathia and the Yankees can’t score of Kluber. Kluber will continue to put the Yankees bats in check and go the distance as the Indians get four runs off Sabathia who lasts five innings. Edwin Encarnacion will have the big blow with a three-run home run off Sabathia. Aaron Judge, who has never faced Kluber before, will continue his Game 1 struggles.
