There’s just over a week of regular season baseball left and with so many teams still in the hunt for the playoffs, that means we have an epic weekend that kicks off tonight. Between teams fighting for postseason seeding and fighting to get into October period, there are some great matchups happening on a big Friday.
Thus, who should you pick?
Best DFS MLB pitchers for September 22, 2017
Not many bona fide aces take the hill for their respective teams today, but that doesn’t take away from how many great pitching picks there are in spite of that!
Justin Verlander vs LA Angels: $12,600 DraftKings, FPPG- 19.3
Verlander has been an absolute stud for the Houston Astros since being acquired from the Detroit Tigers late last month. He has won all three of his starts and has allowed just two earned runs in 21 innings since joining Houston. Going up against an Angels team that has a struggling Mike Trout and has lost four in a row, he’s looking like a strong pick in general and even stronger given he has home field advantage.
Zack Greinke vs Miami Marlins: $12,100 DraftKings, FPPG- 22.0
The Marlins have nothing to play for and it is the exact opposite case for Greinke’s Diamondbacks. The veteran righty has a chance to win his 18th game of the season and further cement his case for NL Comeback Player of the Year. Miami’s only goal right now, realistically, is to play spoiler and that just isn’t going to happen with a team running on all cylinders like Arizona is.
Jon Gray @ San Diego Padres: $8,900 DraftKings, FPPG- 16.1
The Colorado Rockies have not scored in 19 innings and have lost four games in a row, and Gray seems like the one who can help break the team out of its funk. The fact that he is a Rockies starter with a sub-4 ERA is miraculous in itself and he also has a 2.35 ERA this month. Going up against former Rockie Jordan Lyles and his 7.35 ERA, this is a prime bounce-back game for the Rockies with their ace on the hill.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for September 22, 2017
And, of course, this weekend kicks off with some very enticing hitting picks to complement your DFS pitching.
Aaron Judge @ Toronto Blue Jays: $5,600 DraftKings, FPPG- 10.4
Judge finally appears to have found his stroke at the plate again this month, strikeouts aside. He is batting .262 in September with eight home runs and 19 RBI. Throw in that he is batting .333 with six home runs against Toronto this season, and he is an even more enticing pick.
Rhys Hoskins @ Atlanta Braves: $5,200 DraftKings, FPPG- 12
Hoskins continues to swing a hot bat and show absolutely zero signs of slowing down this season. The 24-year-old sensation added a pair of RBIs to bring his total for the season to 45, pretty incredible given how he only debuted on August 11. Hoskins is fully locked in and should continue to put up fine numbers playing at hitter-friendly SunTrust Park this weekend.
Cody Bellinger vs SF Giants: $4,800 DraftKings, FPPG- 9.9
The Dodgers are back in the friendly confines of Dodger Stadium and can clinch the NL West with a win against the Giants tonight, and Bellinger also has the chance to make history. The likely NL Rookie of the Year has 38 home runs for the season and can set a new NL rookie record by slugging just one more. Giants starter Jeff Samardzija (9-14, 4.42 ERA) has not allowed a run to the Dodgers this season but with the NL West crown a win away, I’m anticipating the bats will be alive and led by Bellinger’s record-breaking home run.
Best stack option
Because there’s always one, right?
Tampa Bay Rays @ Ubaldo Jimenez
Jimenez struck out ten New York Yankees in a 6-4 victory last Sunday, but don’t expect lighting to strike twice against the Rays. The man still has a 6.57 ERA on the year and is 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA against Tampa Bay this year. If you’re going to stack, I highly recommend Steven Souza Jr. ($4,700), Evan Longoria ($4,200), and Logan Morrison ($4,100).
