Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice for September 19, 2017

It's another great day for baseball. With a full tilt of games set, who should you draft today?

The week continues as baseball’s regular season winds down. So many teams are fighting for a playoff spot and that means lots of players remain on hot streaks. A pair of aces in Max Scherzer and Yu Darvish takes the mound today, and too many sluggers to count could wind up being the DFS winners today.

The age-old question presents itself: who should you draft?

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for September 19, 2017

Max Scherzer would seem like an obvious choice today, but he gave up seven earned runs in his last start and has allowed 12 in three this month. Darvish, though he tossed seven shutout innings his last start, has also posted a 6.28 ERA in September, so we may need to look for arms elsewhere. That said, who should you pick?

Zack Godley @ San Diego Padres: $11,100 DraftKings, FPPG- 19.5

The Diamondbacks lost a tough one to the Padres last night, meaning that the red-hot Godley is in a prime position for another great start. He is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA this month and though he has yet to beat them this year, has held San Diego to a .232 batting average.

This is the time of year where riding the hot hand is an absolute must, and Godley has just that right now. For this price, he’s worth it.

Mike Clevinger @ Los Angeles Angels: $9,500 DraftKings, FPPG- 16.5

Clevinger has been all but untouchable as of late. He has won his last four starts while posting a sub-1 ERA for the white-hot Cleveland Indians. The Angels could be due to break out of their slump, having gone 4-6 in their last 10 games, but solving a pitcher running as hot as Clevinger could prove tough.

With the Indians fighting for the top seed in the American League playoff picture, Clevinger is a fine pick at a relative discount.

Lucas Giolito @ Houston Astros: $6,500 DraftKings, FPPG- 18.7

Giolito plays for a White Sox team that is out of the playoff mix and facing the strong Astros at Minute Maid Park. This also happens to be the first time this season that Giolito will face a playoff-caliber team, but the numbers suggest that he will be fully locked in.

That is because the young right-hander has gone 2-2 with a 2.56 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in five starts. His BABIP is ridiculously low at .160 and opposing hitters are batting just .170 against him. He faces a real challenge in Houston but given how well Giolito has looked thus far, this could be a prime opportunity for him. For this low of a price, draft the man!

Best DFS MLB Hitters for September 19, 2017

Now that we’ve discussed the best pitchers, who should you pick in the hitting department?

Giancarlo Stanton vs New York Mets: $5,500 DraftKings, FPPG- 10.5

Stanton is only batting .190 this month and hit his first home run in over a week last night. The man is still on pace for 60 on the year, though, and continuing against a depleted New York Mets squad should be like batting practice for him.

It also helps that Stanton faces Seth Lugo and his 5.21 ERA tonight. He may still be slumping overall, but last night’s 2 for 5 performance should be a big enough confidence booster to keep the Stanton Train rolling.

Francisco Lindor @ Los Angeles Angels: $5,400 DraftKings, FPPG- 9.1

Lindor’s 10-game hitting streak came to an end on Sunday, but the man is still batting .348 for the month and is an extra base hit machine. He has 40 doubles on the year and set new career highs this season with 30 home runs and 81 RBI.

Going up against Tyler Skaggs, who has a 4.80 ERA this month, he should pick up right where he left off before his streak was snapped.

Matt Olson @ Detroit Tigers: $5,000 DraftKings, FPPG- 9.1

Olson has been on fire this month, posting a slash line of .290/.397/.839. But that’s not the amazing part. He has 11 home runs and 19 RBI this month alone, with one homer and two RBI coming last night.

Olson has also gone deep in four consecutive games. It’s hard to see him extending the streak to five in cavernous Comerica Park, but his bat is hot and coming cheap. Keep the ball rolling with him tonight as the Tigers send Chad Bell (0-3, 6.42 ERA) to the mound.

Best stack option

Sometimes you need to take a bunch of guys from one team, and this is a case of just that.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ Travis Wood (SDP)

The Padres are baseball’s worst team and Travis Wood has a 6.80 ERA on the year. He has also given up 15 earned runs in just 4.1 innings this month. This means that investing in J.D. Martinez ($5,600), Paul Goldschmidt ($5,600), Jake Lamb ($4,400), and Chris Iannetta ($4,000) is a great idea.
