Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice for August 9, 2017

It was a great day for our hitter picks yesterday, who are we recommending you get in your DFS lineups tonight?

It’s not the best day to be playing DFS. After last night’s display of pitching dominance from Chris Sale and Corey Kluber, there is little certainty about tonight’s arms. However, you’ve got to pick two, so we give you our best bets. On the hitting front, there are lots of red-hot bats to choose from but don’t sleep on some guys in a rut, especially the ones who have seen their list price tumble.

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 9, 2017

There are not a lot of great options tonight and picking anyone brings risks. So who are we recommending?

Zack Greinke vs Los Angeles Dodgers: $11,000 DraftKings, FPPG – 21.9

Greinke’s ERA jumped over 3.00 after his last outing in Chicago, when he was roughed up in a six-run start. However, that should be no reason to be afraid of Greinke tonight. The Dodgers are a good team, but they aren’t so fearsome that a player with a 1.026 WHIP and 9.9 K/9 should not be considered.

Collin McHugh @ Chicago White Sox: $8,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 16.0

After a tricky first game back for McHugh, he has found his feet again in the Majors. A 1.50 ERA in his last two starts (@ Detroit & vs Tampa), along with 13 strikeouts in 12 innings is a good sign. The White Sox have averaged just 3.8 runs in their last six games, and while last night they put up eight runs, it was a rarity.

Kyle Hendricks @ San Francisco Giants: $8,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 13.0

Since coming back from the DL on July 24, Kyle Hendricks has looked a lot more like the Cy Young candidate we saw in 2016. He’s posted a 2.76 ERA and 1.286 WHIP since his return, along with 13 strikeouts to just two walks.

While he is 0-1 in those games, he is now fully stretched out, having gone seven innings against the Nationals, and is ready to dominate a poor Giants lineup.

A full slate gives us a lot of options, and some weak pitchers mean a lot of prices are inflated, so who should you put in your lineup?

Eduardo Nunez @ Tampa Bay Rays: $4,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.6

Since July 28 when he joined the Red Sox, Eduardo Nunez leads the Majors in hits (19) and extra-base hits (10). That fact makes his $4,400 price tag insane. Nunez can play anywhere, so even with Dustin Pedroia back in the lineup he will not hit the bench. Not after a 3-for-5 day last night.

Jose Pirela @ Cincinnati Reds: $3,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.5

I recommended him last night, and he scored 22 points on two doubles, two singles, and three runs. The 4-for-4 night bumped his slash line up to .299/.341/.534 for the year. Meanwhile, he is $100 cheaper today than he was yesterday, and faces Asher Wojciechowski who is by no means an ace. Check the Padres lineup sheet when it’s published and if Pirela is there, get him in yours.

Corey Dickerson vs Boston Red Sox: $3,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.5

After getting the night off against Chris Sale yesterday, Dickerson will be back in the lineup tonight against right-hander Rick Porcello.

Dickerson went 0-for-12 in the series with the Brewers over the weekend which is probably why, combined with not playing last night, he is so cheap. However, he is a .296 hitter with 21 home runs this year. At $3,400 he could end up being a bargain.

Best stack options

Which team is in a good position for you to fill your own lineup? Who has the best pitcher matchups for you to exploit?

Baltimore Orioles @ Troy Scribner (LAA)

The rookie righty Scribner made his first start on August 4 against the Oakland A’s and was wild, walking four and giving up five runs (two earned) in just four innings of work. Those three unearned runs came on a homer, so it’s not like anyone behind him had an influence on that ball. Manny Machado ($5,000), Jonathan Schoop ($4,700), Adam Jones ($4,300), and Trey Mancini ($3,600) are all worthy stack options tonight.
