Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice for August 8, 2017

15 games mean a lot of players to sift through for your DFS lineups. Fortunately, we are here to do some of the leg work for you. Who do we recommend? Find out here.

A full slate sees a raft of impressive pitching options and all of your favorite hitters available. However, picking between them is always difficult, and the more popular players are in so many lineups that it’s hard to make an impact. Today we focus on a few under the radar, and underpriced, bats that could get you into the money. But as ever, we start with the pitchers.

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 8, 2017

With the AL Cy Young front-runners in action tonight there are a lot of options for the ace of your lineup. Which should you choose?

Chris Sale @ Tampa Bay Rays: $12,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 29.7

We’re going with Sale over Corey Kluber and Dallas Keuchel tonight, in part because the Rockies lineup is more dangerous and because Keuchel has been struggling since he came off the DL.

With Sale, you largely know what you’re getting. He leads the Majors in K/9 (12.7) and FIP (2.07), and while his last start was a disaster against the Indians, it broke a 22.1 inning scoreless streak. At 13-4, Sale has been dominant this season and should have a strong bounce-back outing tonight.

Jose Quintana @ San Francisco Giants: $10,500 DraftKings, FPPG – 16.7

After Jake Arrieta’s success last night we’re going to roll with Quintana. Put his last outing against the deadly Diamondbacks to one side, and Quintana’s stint with the Cubs has been impressive. A 2.37 ERA, a .179/.236/.313 slash line against, and a 2-1 record. Now that is a player you can really get behind.

Obviously, the three homers and six earned runs against Arizona are disappointing, but the Giants lineup poses a much smaller threat than the Diamondbacks.

Zack Godley vs Los Angeles Dodgers: $7,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 19.1

Facing the Dodgers isn’t fun, both for your ERA and your run support. However, Godley is going up against the easiest of the Dodgers starters in Kenta Maeda. Maeda is still a tough opponent, but it could have been far worse.

Godley has been quietly excellent this season. A 2.86 ERA is backed up by a 0.996 WHIP, 9.2 K/9, and 2.98 FIP. His 5-4 record is a little worrying, but his run support has been lacking. He’s blanked his last two opponents, putting behind him the tough outings against Atlanta and Washington, and restoring a lot of confidence. At just $7,600 he is a great option tonight.

Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 8, 2017

There are a lot of big names that people focus on in DFS, but sometimes it’s the lesser talked about, but still productive, players that can take you into the money.

Justin Smoak vs New York Yankees: $4,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.9

In five August games, Smoak is hitting .273 with two doubles, a homer, and five RBI. If that’s not good enough then how about his .407/.480/.686 slash line against lefties this year? He’s also sitting on 31 total homers for the season. This is a low price for someone playing as well as Smoak is.

Justin Turner @ Arizona Diamondbacks: $4,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.1

Speaking of playing well this year, Turner leads the major leagues in on-base percentage. He also leads the National League in batting average and is fifth in wRC+. He may have only played 85 games this year, but the Dodgers third baseman has been electric. He has 13 homers, four steals, and, despite his lack of playing time, is eighth in WAR already.

Jose Pirela @ Cincinnati Reds: $3,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.1

Pirela is quietly the best player in the Padres lineup. You might say that’s not difficult, but in his 49 games he has a .285 average, 28 extra base hits, 25 RBI, and three steals. He’s no guarantee to be in the lineup, but if he is, then he should be in yours.

Best stack options

A full slate gives us plenty of tasty options for stacking lineups

Houston Astros vs Derek Holland (CWS)

The Astros lineup isn’t cheap, but it should be effective today. Holland has been miserable this year, posting a 5.27 ERA, 6.18 FIP, and 1.553 WHIP. His ERA since June is a sky-high 8.65. Stacking Jose Altuve ($5,400) with Josh Reddick ($4,600), Marwin Gonzalez ($4,600), Alex Bregman ($4,400), or Derek Fisher ($4,100) is a good way to go.
