It’s a busy Friday in DFS, with several good pitchers and plenty of cheap and cheerful hitters available. So with a raft of new series starting and several injuries to take into consideration, we put forward our recommendations for tonight’s slate.
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 4, 2017
There are a lot of good pitchers going today. The problem is a lot of them are going against each other or good teams. Jacob deGrom would normally be a recommendation, but he’s against Darvish and the Dodgers. Madison Bumgarner is great, but he’s going against the Diamondbacks. So, who do we recommend today?
Brad Peacock vs Toronto Blue Jays: $10,300 DraftKings, FPPG – 12.8
Back in the rotation and back in our lineup. Peacock has a 2.93 ERA as a starter, together with a strikeout rate that makes provides a solid points boost (12.2 K/9). He only averages five innings a start, but with Cesar Valdez going against him and a lineup that is still producing runs despite its injuries, this should be a good day for Peacock.
Jake Faria vs Milwaukee Brewers: $8,500 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.9
Faria’s FIP (3.80) doesn’t fully support his low ERA (2.93), but with a 1.158 WHIP he is far from getting lucky this year. Trusting rookies is always hard, but the Brewers are struggling, and while Faria has allowed three or more runs in his last three starts he has a good strikeout rate, averages six innings a start, and has a 5-1 record.
Kyle Freeland vs Philadelphia Phillies: $5,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 11.6
Freeland is a risk, but boy is he cheap. You might think picking a rookie at Coors is odd, but going against the awful Phillies makes him tempting, and then there is the fact that Freeland is better at home than on the road. He has a 3.21 ERA in 10 starts at Coors this season, is striking out hitters more often than on the road and has an opposition slugging percentage of just .373. If you are looking to get cheap with a starter tonight, go with Freeland.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 4, 2017
All the bats are available, so who should you be selecting tonight? We find three undervalued players for your consideration.
Bryce Harper @ Chicago Cubs: $4,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.9
It’s been six games since Harper hit a homer. He’s in a 2-for-21 slump in those six games, so it’s understandable that his price would drop. However, he’s still Bryce Harper. He’s a .324 hitter with 27 homers. When that is available at under $5,000 you have to consider it. Joe Maddon has a propensity for giving Harper free passes to first, but that’s still points on the board.
Michael Brantley vs New York Yankees: $4,000 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.3
Brantley went 0-for-3 last night with a walk and a run scored. His strong slash line of .295/.357/.438 should keep him in the points tonight and going against Jaime Garcia is hardly likely to slow him down.
Rafael Devers vs Chicago White Sox: $3,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 11.7
Devers is red hot right now. He only had one hit last night, but it was a three-run shot in the first inning. He’s slashing .406/.486/.750 in his short time in the Majors. At just $3,800 you should ride the wave as long as it lasts, just like the Red Sox are.
Best stack options
Stacking is a tricky thing to get right, but there is one team tonight that should be a slam dunk.
Texas Rangers vs Bartolo Colon (MIN)
Every Bartolo Colon start is an opportunity to stack these days. The loveable 44-year-old is posting a 7.70 ERA and a 1.749 WHIP. He is as hittable as any pitcher this season and Texas should feast on him tonight. Nomar Mazara ($4,700), Elvis Andrus ($4,600), Carlos Gomez ($4,500), and Delino DeShields ($3,600) are all good options to get into your lineup today.
