It’s a heavy travel day in the Majors, with 13 games on the slate and a raft of quality pitchers. After yesterday’s successes (Thank’s JA Happ) we get back to the grindstone and try to find some value for today’s DFS lineups. Who are we recommending?
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 3, 2017
There are a couple of aces going tonight. We pick out one, and a few cheaper options to save your money.
Zack Greinke @ Chicago Cubs: $12,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 22.3
We’re going with Greinke tonight over the likes of Alex Wood and Corey Kluber because very quietly he has been terrific this year. A 2.84 ERA, a 9.8 K/9, and 13 wins would have him in Cy Young contention in any normal season, and if Max Scherzer misses time with this neck issue, maybe it will.
The Cubs are on a good run, but they aren’t infallible, as Zack Godley showed last night, and Greinke is capable of carving up their lineup.
Rick Porcello vs Chicago White Sox: $9,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 14.9
The 2016 AL Cy Young has had a rough 2017, posting a 4.55 ERA, 4.34 FIP, and 1.375 WHIP. However, the White Sox are basically a Triple-A team right now and Porcello is still striking out batters at a good rate. Keep an eye on the weather after last night’s wash out is all.
Collin McHugh vs Tampa Bay Rays: $7,500 DraftKings, FPPG – 14.4
This is just McHugh’s third start of the season, and after knocking the rust off in a shaky outing against the Orioles he was downright dominant against the Tigers last time out. His reputation is good, and while the Rays can hit homers they can also strike out a lot. He’s a good cheap option for tonight if you are looking to save money.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 3, 2017
With plenty of options to choose from, we narrow it down to three and find some value for you.
Cody Bellinger @ Atlanta Braves: $4,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.0
Bellinger has a homer in each of his last two games, giving him 30 for the year. He’s cool off somewhat from his hot June, but he is still getting the job done at the plate and has every chance to rack up points far beyond his cost tonight.
Travis Shaw vs St. Louis Cardinals: $4,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.8
For going against a righty this is pretty cheap. Shaw hasn’t been in great form recently, with his last home run coming on July 27 and is 2-of-15 in recent games, but he’s a 24 home run hitter with a .288 average and .560 slugging, you want him when he’s a good few $100 below where he should be.
Jake Lamb @ Chicago Cubs: $3,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.5
Lamb amassed 16 points last night for the same price, and here he is once again undervalued. I can’t make you put him in your lineup, but you really should. He’s too good to be valued this low.
Best stack options
We find a rather odd team to stack today, but the logic is sound…
Kansas City Royals vs Yovani Gallardo (SEA)
The Royals are hardly a team you’d think of to stack, they’re not the most powerful lineup in the world after all. However, Gallardo’s 1.47 WHIP and 5.35 ERA are very tempting to go against. Then there is the fact that, because of their poor reputation, the Royals are fairly cheap. Eric Hosmer ($4,400), Mike Moustakas ($4,400), Melky Cabrera ($3,900), and Jorge Bonifacio ($3,800) can all go in your lineup and not kill your budget.
