Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice for August 24, 2017

Just because it's a travel day doesn't mean you shouldn't play DFS. With 12 games tonight there is a lot of ammunition to play with.

Despite the difficulties of a travel day, today’s schedule is packed. With 12 games on the slate and several very strong pitching options, it’s pretty much like any other day. Which means there is no reason to sit out tonight and let a chance at glory slip away. We take a look through the price list to see who you should put into your DFS lineup today.

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 24, 2017

With so many big arms going on one day, just how do you choose between them? We take a look at which ones you should trust.

Carlos Martinez vs San Diego Padres: $12,100 DraftKings, FPPG – 19.2

$12,100 is a lot, but Martinez is only the third most expensive arm tonight after Chris Sale and Robbie Ray and I think he’s the best option of the big ticket pitchers.

A 3.57 ERA and a 10-9 record may not sound that impressive, but his 1.190 WHIP and a 9.4 K/9 rate show just what a dangerous pitcher he can be. He’s also been remarkably consistent, producing a quality start in each of his last three games and picking up a win in all three. He should be in line for a strong start against the struggling Padres.

Jake Arrieta @ Cincinnati Reds: $10,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 15.5

Arrieta has been brilliant since the start of July. In nine starts he has allowed more two earned runs just once, and that was three. He’s carrying a 2.03 ERA since the start of July, striking out 48 hitters with an opposing slash of .189/.259/.330. He’s found his Cy Young form but is yet to be priced like an elite pitcher, so get in while you can.

Jose Berrios @ Chicago White Sox: $8,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 16.6

Berrios is a risk. He can spin a gem like his last outing of seven shutout innings against the Diamondbacks, or he can blow up like his 3.1 inning, six-run, no strikeout effort against the Tigers just before that.

Berrios’ only start against the White Sox this season was a strong two-run, eight-inning win back in June, and there is little reason to think the White Sox will get the better of him this time given their lineup is a lot worse than it was then.

Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 24, 2017

With the Giants, Brewers, Braves, Orioles, Mariners, and Athletics sitting today, we’re not missing that many useful bats. So, who should be in your lineup?

George Springer vs Washington Nationals: $4,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.1

Springer has had mixed results since returning to the lineup two weeks ago. He’s got just three extra-base hits in 52 at-bats since his return, and after a 0-for-4 performance last night is hitting just .231. However, he’s still George Springer. Anytime he is under $5,000 you have to consider him. I know he’s going against Stephen Strasburg tonight, but the Nationals ace isn’t unbeatable and is making his own return from the DL tonight.

Corey Seager @ Pittsburgh Pirates: $4,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.8

The Dodgers’ shortstop has a 12-game hitting streak going, and while he’s only hit one homer this month he has hit .341 in August, with nine multi-hit games. He’s not been a glamorous hitter this month, but his devastating efficiency makes him an attractive option tonight.

Rafael Devers @ Cleveland Indians: $4,000 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.5

Devers did well last night against Corey Kluber, and he should get good looks at the plate tonight against Trevor Bauer if he plays. Dustin Pedroia is nearing a return and Eduardo Nunez is still playing extremely well. It will be tricky for John Farrell to juggle three players in two positions, but if Devers is in the lineup, then he has to be in yours at this low price.

Best stack option

After nailing the Rangers last night, who are we picking tonight to exploit a good matchup?

Minnesota Twins vs Derek Holland (CWS)

Holland has been dreadful recently. His ERA has ballooned to 6.28 and his WHIP is a massive 1.703. His last two starts have been disasters as he failed to get out of the third, giving up seven runs on both occasions. His last appearance was in relief against these Twins, and he got one out while giving up three runs. Brian Dozier ($5,400), Byron Buxton ($4,500), Max Kepler ($4,000), Eduardo Escobar ($3,800), and Jorge Polanco ($3,600) are all good options tonight.
