Tuesday was a little rough, but with DFS you have to leave the bad days behind you and get right back on the horse. Today sees Cleveland ace Corey Kluber take the ball and several other good pitching arms. Oh, and Giancarlo Stanton is at it again.
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 23, 2017
Corey Kluber is on the mound tonight, but given he is facing the red-hot Red Sox who just pummelled Carlos Carrasco I might think twice about investing in him. So, if we’re not using Kluber, who are we recommending?
Luis Severino @ Detroit Tigers: $12,300 DraftKings, FPPG – 21.6
Severino is quietly having an excellent year for the Yankees. In 24 starts he has posted a 3.18 ERA with a 1.107 WHIP and 175 strikeouts at a rate of 10.5 per nine innings. In another year he would be talked about as a potential Cy Young candidate, but thanks to Chris Sale and the aforementioned Kluber that’s not a possibility this year.
Recently Severino got cut to shreds by the Boston Red Sox, but that was an anomaly. In his past seven starts he has had that one bad day, and 39 innings with a 0.69 ERA. You can trust Severino more than any other pitcher in the Majors right now.
Rich Hill @ Pittsburgh Pirates: $10,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.0
The veteran lefty is putting together another good year. In 18 starts for the Dodgers, he has posted a 3.54 ERA with a 1.234 WHIP and a very impressive 10.7 K/9. He’s not a big name, but he is insanely consistent. He’s allowed over three runs in just two starts this season and has dropped his ERA by over a run since the start of July.
Zack Godley @ New York Mets: $9,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.7
Godley continues to be an undervalued asset. In his 18 starts, he has a 3.13 ERA, 1.089 WHIP, and a 9.6 K/9. He has lost his last two starts, but in those appearances, he picked up 18 strikeouts to keep his points total strong. Even on his bad days, Godley is still good.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 23, 2017
Everyone is available, so who should you get into your lineups tonight?
Marcell Ozuna @ Philadelphia Phillies: $4,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.0
Ozuna blasted the 29th home run of his season last night and took his slash line up to .307/.371/.549.
Tonight he gets to continue his barrage against Mark Leiter Jr, who has a 4.38 ERA and a very poor 1.8 HR/9 rate. It’s a great matchup for Ozuna, and he is at a fairly cheap price for his production.
Justin Turner @ Pittsburgh Pirates: $4,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.3
Even after last night’s 0-for-5 performance, Turner is still slashing .336/.425/.544 for the season. The Dodgers’ third baseman has 17 homers this season along with 57 RBI, but it’s that high average that keeps the points ticking over.
Turner hasn’t had an extra-base hit since he launched two bombs on August 13, but he’s still a good bet, especially at this price.
Salvador Perez vs Colorado Rockies: $3,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 7.6
Perez is just the 15th-most expensive catcher today because he returned from the disabled list last night. He went 2-for-3, including a double, with an RBI, so it’s worth saving some of your budget to get him into your lineup.
Best stack option
The risky option can sometimes pay off big, and today we are recommending you take a risk on these guys.
Texas Rangers @ Andrew Heaney (LAA)
Heaney has made two starts since April 2016. That fact alone should be enough to stack the bats against his rusty left arm. Heaney’s only start so far this season was against the Orioles on August 18, and they hit four homers off him in five innings. Nomar Mazara ($4,700), Delino DeShields ($4,500), Elvis Andrus ($4,500), and Mike Napoli ($3,600) are all good stack options today.
