It’s a very light travel schedule today, with just eight games on the slate. However, even with so few teams going there are still several good options for your DFS lineup tonight. Who do we recommend?
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 21, 2017
There are only 16 arms going tonight, making your choices limited. Here are three guys you should strongly consider.
Alex Wood @ Pittsburgh Pirates: $12,100 DraftKings, FPPG – 20.5
Wood’s streak of three wins in a row ended last time out against the White Sox despite allowing just one run in seven innings. Wood has been a wonderful pitcher all year, with 122 strikeouts in 117.1 innings, a 14-1 record, a 2.30 ERA, and a 1.014 WHIP. He’s one of the most consistent arms in the Majors this season and his price reflects it. He’s played Pittsburgh once this year, but threw five shutout innings with 11 strikeouts.
Cole Hamels @ Los Angeles Angels: $11,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 14.6
The lefty ace has had to alter his game plan somewhat this year, with his strikeout rate tanking due to a loss of velocity. However, Hamels has adjusted well. With a 3.48 ERA and 1.108 WHIP, he is still a productive pitcher.
Hamels has won his last three outings, which include a complete game against the Twins and seven shutout innings against the Astros. Just because his strikeouts are down doesn’t mean he can’t still get the job done.
Taijuan Walker @ New York Mets: $7,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 14.8
The Diamondbacks young gun has had a tough time in his last two starts, but against stiff competition. The Cubs and Astros did damage to Walker, but going against the Mets is a very different proposition.
The Mets have lost six of their last seven games and traded away Curtis Granderson last week, making their lineup far less formidable. Walker is carrying a 3.83 ERA and 1.313 WHIP, but he’s striking out hitters at a good rate and can pick up a lot of points tonight.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 21, 2017
It’s slim pickings, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t good players you can put in your lineup tonight.
Brian Dozier @ Chicago White Sox: $4,500 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.0
In his last 11 games, the Twins second baseman has hit five home runs, scored 15 runs, is hitting 17-for-49 (.347) and has 12 RBI. He’s found his groove. Dozier isn’t the most consistent hitter, but his hot streak has coincided with the rest of the lineup playing well too, hence all those runs from the leadoff spot.
Rafael Devers @ Cleveland Indians: $4,500 DraftKings, FPPG – 12.0
Devers continues to be a reliable piece of the Red Sox lineup despite his youth and inexperience. In the last seven games, he has hit five home runs and is 10-of-25 (.400). He’s thrived in the recent games against New York, can he bring the same level of play to Cleveland? Even if he’s not quite the monster he has been against the Yankees, he is good value at $4,500.
Trey Mancini vs Oakland Athletics: $3,900 DraftKings, FPPG – 7.5
Mancini’s strong first half has faded somewhat. He’s hit just .223 since the All-Star break, however, there are plenty of things to like about Mancini. He’s got seven homers since mid-July and is facing Chris Smith tonight, who has posted a 5.26 ERA this year along with a sky-high 2.1 HR/9 rate. Mancini should get back on track this evening.
Best stack options
Which team has the kind of matchup you can exploit tonight?
Arizona Diamondbacks @ Robert Gsellman (NYM)
The 24-year-old Gsellman has had a rough 2017. With a 5.98 ERA and a 1.598 WHIP, he has been one of the most consistently poor starters in the Majors this season. Facing him is one of the toughest lineups in the not just the National League but all of baseball. Paul Goldschmidt ($5,600) is a star, and around him, Jake Lamb ($4,800), AJ Pollock ($4,400), and Daniel Descalso ($3,400) are good options today.
