Yesterday was an odd one, with Max Scherzer getting pulled after just an inning for precautionary reasons, and both Chris Sale and Carlos Carrasco getting hit around in Fenway park. Still, today is another day, and we have the chance to make up for any losses from yesterday. Here are our favorite options for today’s DFS leagues.
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 2, 2017
The options today are not overly strong, but you have to start two, and these are the guys we recommend.
Dallas Keuchel vs Tampa Bay Rays: $10,500 DraftKings, FPPG – 21.5
After pitching just three rough innings in his first start back from the DL last week, it would be understandable to hesitate with Keuchel tonight, but at $10,500 he is too tempting to me. The Rays can hit, but they also strike out a lot, and with the rust knocked off
Zack Godley @ Chicago Cubs: $9,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.7
The Cubs dismantled Patrick Corbin last night, so why am I picking against them tonight? Well, there is often a let down after an offensive explosion and Godley is pitching a lot better this season than Corbin is.
Godley comes into tonight’s game with a 3.06 ERA, and the peripheral numbers to back it up. A 3.03 FIP, a 1.008 WHIP, a 9.3 K/9… the 27-year-old righty has been impressive this season.
JA Happ @ Chicago White Sox: $7,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 13.8
Happ is a very inconsistent player. He can put up a strong performance, or give up a ton of runs. I’m putting him here as a very cheap option that has a good chance of picking up the win as he is going against the light-hitting White Sox, but be careful with him because he could scupper your lineup too.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 2, 2017
A full slate gives us a lot of options, but there are two underpriced stars that you should certainly get into your lineup today.
Paul Goldschmidt @ Chicago Cubs: $5,000 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.8
Goldschmidt has only hit two home runs in the second half of the season, but he has improved his batting average by six points, his on-base by 10, and picked up 12 RBI. He is still a stunning player, and against a shaky pitcher like Jake Arrieta who, while improving recently, has allowed a homer in each of his last four starts and is still posting an ERA over four, Goldschmidt can be devastating.
Mookie Betts vs Cleveland Indians: $4,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.6
Betts is once again grossly undervalued. He picked up 14 points last night on two singles, two runs scored, a walk, and an RBI. Not an impressive statline, but still a strong points haul. He’s the kind of player that at this cost you have to put in your lineup.
Jake Lamb @ Chicago Cubs: $3,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.5
Lamb is so cheap because he was left out of last night’s game with no reason given by the team. Now it could have just been because they were facing a lefty in Jon Lester, but if he is in the starting lineup tonight you have to have him in yours.
Best stack options
There aren’t a lot of good options today. You’d think the Rockies would be, but their whole lineup is so expensive it becomes impossible to stack them.
Washington Nationals @ Vance Worley (MIA)
Worley is not having a good season. As a starter he has a 7.52 ERA in 20.1 innings. That is downright dreadful and something the Nationals’ lineup will want to exploit. Bryce Harper ($5,400), Anthony Rendon ($5,000), Adam Lind ($4,300), Daniel Murphy ($4,200), and Howie Kendrick ($3,700) are all names you should look at piling into your lineup.
