Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice for August 18, 2017

Friday is a full slate and packed with strong pitching options. We have picked out the best players for your DFS lineup today.

A full slate with a lot of fantastic pitchers going today means there are a lot of routes to a large points haul. Who should you put into your DFS lineups tonight? We have you covered.

Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 18, 2017

There are Cy Young contenders and bouncing back veterans up and down the slate today. Who should you start?

Max Scherzer @ San Diego Padres: $14,100 DraftKings, FPPG – 28.6

This is a wildly expensive price for Scherzer, but the matchup is incredible. Not only is Scherzer taking to the mound in one of the best pitchers parks in baseball, but against one of the worst lineups too.

The Padres are 29th in runs scored (466, 3.85 a game) and slashing just .235/.301/.403 as a team while ranking 4th in strikeouts (1,123). This could be a huge game for Scherzer. There is 15+ strikeout, complete game potential in tonight’s start, and that may well be worth the high price tag.

Jake Arrieta vs Toronto Blue Jays: $10,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 15.2

Arrieta’s season numbers of a 3.73 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 15.2 points a game might not be great, but in his last 10 outings, he has shown signs of improvement. He’s posted a 2.60 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and, importantly for us, 18.5 points per game.

He’s still not striking out hitters at an amazing rate, but he is looking far more like the old Arrieta than he did in May and June, and that’s not only good for the Cubs but good for us too.

Zack Godley @ Minnesota Twins: $8,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.8

Godley has been a revelation this season. In 17 starts he has posted a 2.95 ERA, backed up by a 3.17 FIP and 1.04 WHIP. Not only that, but he is striking out more than a batter per inning. Godley has faced a lot of dangerous lineups in recent starts, going against the Cardinals, the Cubs twice, and the Dodgers, but emerging with a 1.78 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 25.1 innings.

Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 18, 2017

We can’t recommend Giancarlo Stanton every day, so who else is there that should be in your lineup?

Tim Beckham vs Los Angeles Angels: $4,400 DraftKings, FPPG – 7.5

In 16 games with the Orioles, Beckham is hitting a ridiculous .485 with five homers and 12 RBI. This kind of streak surely can’t continue, but he’s also very modestly priced for someone as hot as he is right now.

Tommy Pham @ Pittsburgh Pirates: $4,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.1

Pham hit his first home run of August last night, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored. He now has a nine-game hit streak and is proving to be reliable. He can score points in so many ways you have to consider him when he is this cheap.

Andrew McCutchen vs St. Louis Cardinals: $3,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.0

McCutchen has come down to earth in August, hitting just .245 with one homer and six RBI, but he’s still Andrew McCutchen! Him being less than $4,000 is crazy, even if he is going against Carlos Martinez. He went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two runs last night.

Best stack option

It’s always risky, but after finding success with the Braves yesterday, who are we tipping today?

Colorado Rockies vs Matt Garza (MIL)

Matt Garza takes his 4.38 ERA, 1.345 WHIP, and 1.3 HR/9 to Coors Field, which is a recipe for disaster. In his last two outings against the Twins and Reds, Garza has gone 8.2 innings and allowed 11 earned runs and five homers for an 11.42 ERA. He’s not in good form, and the Rockies love hitting at home. Charlie Blackmon ($5,800), Trevor Story ($4,600), DJ LeMahieu ($4,600), and Jonathan Lucroy ($3,700) are all strong options today.
