A full slate of games has given us several interesting pitching matchups while a certain fishy outfielder continues to make a mockery of logic and physics. Who do we recommend for your lineup tonight?
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 16, 2017
There are a lot of good options today, so we whittle it down to three.
Carlos Carrasco @ Minnesota Twins: $11,100 DraftKings, FPPG – 19.3
After two rough starts, Carrasco got back on track with a dominant eight-inning, ten-strikeout performance against the Rays. It’s been an uneven second half for Carrasco, but he has 38 strikeouts in 34 innings, so it’s not like he has lost the ability to rack up points.
Jimmy Nelson vs Pittsburgh Pirates: $9,900 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.9
Nelson is coming off the worst start of his season after giving up ten runs (nine earned) against the Reds. It raised his ERA by a massive 48 points, however, it’s not a reason to be concerned. Every player has an off-day now and then, and all it’s done is lower Nelson’s price for today. The Pirates can be tricky, but they are prone to terrible games more regularly than most, I’m starting Nelson with confidence today.
Jake Faria @ Toronto Blue Jays: $8,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 18.9
Like Nelson, Faria is coming off a poor start. The rookie got tagged for five runs in six innings against the Indians last time out, but when it’s a rookie, the questions come a little faster.
I see no reason not to trust Faria tonight against a Toronto lineup he dominated in June. He’s registering a strikeout per inning, and that is a strong foundation for points.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 16, 2017
There is one must-have name, but beyond that which batters should you get in your lineup today?
Giancarlo Stanton vs San Francisco Giants: $5,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.6
$5,800 is a lot of money, but the man hit yet another home run last night because he is a gift from the gods. A 432 ft home run off Madison Bumgarner is something special, home runs in six-straight games are special. This is a streak you have to ride.
Justin Turner vs Chicago White Sox: $4,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.5
Turner remains on a tear, going 2-of-5 last night and hitting a pair of home runs in the game before that. He’s a little pricey but the Dodgers lineup around him gives him plenty of runs scored and RBI opportunities too.
Jonathan Schoop @ Seattle Mariners: $4,100 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.8
Schoop broke a nine-game drought and hit his 26th home run of the season last night. August has been a lean month for the Orioles second baseman, with just five extra-base hits in 61 at-bats, but he is a talented player who will bounce back. Maybe last night was the start of it.
Best stack options
It’s a risky tactic, but it can pay off big. Which teams have a helpful matchup you could exploit?
Baltimore Orioles vs Marco Gonzales (SEA)
Stacking in Safeco Field is a little risky, but there is plenty of space for doubles, and against Gonzales, there will be plenty of meatballs to hit. The 25-year-old is posting an 8.49 ERA this season along with a 1.629 WHIP and is allowing 13.1 hits per nine innings. Manny Machado ($5,400), Adam Jones ($4,900), Tim Beckham ($4,500), and Jonathan Schoop ($4,100) are all good stack options.
