Tuesday’s are always good for some DFS action. 15 games and several good pitchers give us a lot to consider. Don’t despair though, we have more than enough recommendations for you to get in the money.
Best DFS MLB Pitchers for August 15, 2017
There are several good pitchers today, but with some tricky matchups, it’s time to look away from the top of the price list.
Justin Verlander @ Texas Rangers: $11,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 16.4
A difficult season for Verlander has quickly turned into a good second half. He has knocked 69 points off his ERA since the All-Star break, striking out more than a hitter per inning while winning each of his last three outings and spinning gems against the Astros and Pirates recently.
While he was put on, and cleared waivers, he is still unlikely to be traded due to the enormous contract he holds, but that is not distracting him as he continues to mow down batters.
Alex Wood vs Chicago White Sox: $9,600 DraftKings, FPPG – 20.4
Wood posted two horrible starts at the end of July, but his work in August has been back to his best. Three earned runs in 12 innings, six K’s to just three walks, and two wins to boot.
The lack of strikeouts recently is a little concerning. He hasn’t punched out over five hitters in a start since July 5, but tonight he gets to go against the Quad-A lineup of the Chicago White Sox, and if that doesn’t solve the problem I’m not sure what will.
Kyle Hendricks vs Cincinnati Reds: $7,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 13.1
Since coming off the disabled list, Kyle Hendricks has looked much more like his 2016 self. In four starts he has gone 21 innings with 18 strikeouts, five walks, and an ERA of 2.57. His lack of innings has resulted in a 0-1 record in those outings, but his performance has shown he can control a lineup like the Reds relatively easily. At such a low cost he could be a great option tonight.
Best DFS MLB Hitters for August 15, 2017
There is one bat that is now a must-have, but behind him what else is there?
Giancarlo Stanton vs San Francisco Giants: $5,200 DraftKings, FPPG – 10.5
You must have Giancarlo in your lineup right now. He has a 20-game on-base streak and a five-game home run streak on the go. In August he has mashed 10 homers already, picked up 20 RBI, and been a baseball-slaying monster.
I know he’s facing Madison Bumgarner; I know he’s in a pitching-friendly park, but he has been crushing the ball since the All-Star break (Slugging .833) and at this point doubting him because of pitcher/park matchups is just silly.
Rafael Devers vs St. Louis Cardinals: $4,700 DraftKings, FPPG – 9.7
Speaking of hot bats, Rafael Devers followed up his rocket off of Aroldis Chapman on Sunday night with two long balls yesterday against the Indians, including landing one on top of the Green Monster. Devers is now hitting .339/.397/.677 with six homers and 12 RBI. They might not be Giancarlo Stanton numbers, but they are good for a mortal.
Andrelton Simmons @ Washington Nationals: $3,800 DraftKings, FPPG – 8.0
Simmons is 0-for-6 in his last two games, but even then he has still picked up an RBI. He’s got someone home in the last five games and is hitting a solid .295 with seven RBI, and seven walks this month with a homer. He is very quietly a reliable performer this year.
Best stack options
While teams have the pitcher matchup you can really take advantage of?
Los Angeles Dodgers vs Miguel Gonzalez (CWS)
Gonzalez is one of the more hittable pitchers in the league, and the Dodgers lineup is fantastic. Gonzalez is posting a 4.85 ERA, with a 5.10 FIP, and 1.486 WHIP. Not the highest in the land, but still bad. While he crushed the Astros last time out that is now becoming an everyday occurrence. Before that he got manhandled by the Red Sox to the tune of seven runs in 1.2 innings. Justin Turner ($4,800), Corey Seager ($4,800), Yasiel Puig ($3,700), and Yasmani Grandal ($3,600) are all good options today.
