Neymar is coming close to his world record £196 million move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona after the club gave him permission to leave training to sort out his future. He began saying goodbye to teammates whilst Lionel Messi has taken to Instagram to post a heartfelt goodbye to his *former* teammate.
£196 million is a significant amount of money, unlikely to be paid in one instalment, rather multiple amounts over time. However, Financial Fair Play will prove a difficult sea to navigate and may involve PSG having to sell some of their existing squad members to free up the funds and reach FFP criteria.
Here are four players that may have to be sacrificed to make way for Neymar.
1 Serge Aurier
The Ivory Coast international has been linked with moves away from the Parisian giants ever since his extraordinary outburst against former manager Laurent Blanc and teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Belgian Thomas Meunier became the French club's first choice right back, and with the signing of superstar Dani Alves, Aurier looks nailed on to leave the Parc des Princes.
Manchester United have apparently distanced themselves from a move, despite reports suggesting a deal had been agreed, seemingly leaving a clear pathway for Tottenham Hotspur to swoop in.
Tottenham need a right back, but may be put off by his questionable attitude. Aurier is still a good player, though, and he'll have a number of suitors from across the continent.
2 Angel di Maria
With FFP guidelines in mind, selling the Argentine international should fetch at least a quarter of Neymar's fee, despite him being 29-years-old.
He is one of the Paris club's crucial players and is instrumental in their attacking set up, however the club would certainly offset his influence to capture Neymar.
He can play wide or centrally and has wonderful technique and is a genius on the pitch. Barcelona themselves may consider signing him and there would certainly be plenty of top clubs who would want to attain the former Real Madrid's players services.
3 Marco Verratti
A transfer like Neymar's has never been executed before, so it's difficult to tell just how much of an effect this will have on PSG's expenditure.
If the club are in desperate need to recoup some large funds due to the transfer, Italian superstar Verratti is their most valuable commodity. He is one of the best midfielders in the world and Barcelona were said to be desperate to sign him from the French club.
PSG would loathe to lose his services, however the club may be forced to sell the deep-lying playmaker to recoup at least half of the Neymar transfer.
4 Julian Draxler
In truth, PSG are probably better off selling Lucas Moura. Julian Draxler has a higher ceiling than the Brazilian, as well as more strings to his bow, but Lucas is Neymar's compatriot and his presence will help the settling in process.
For this reason, Draxler will be out the door before Lucas. At 23-years-old, he'd fetch a big fee, enhanced by some impressive performances at the Confederations Cup for Germany.
He's capable of playing out wide or through the middle and finally seemed to find some form in France following a spell at Wolfsburg. However, Neymar's arrival will push Draxler to the periphery of the squad.
