LoL Roster Moves: Pridestalker joins ROCCAT

ROCCAT is filling the void left by Maxlore’s leave by recruiting Pridestalker, a promising jungler from the EU CS.

The news that Milo “Pridestalker” Wehnes will be joining ROCCAT was announced on the team’s Facebook page. If you don’t know who Pridestalker is, he’s an up-and-coming jungler from the European Challenger Series. As a part of the Misfits Academy lineup, Pridestalker struggled throughout the regular Split, but put on an absolute clinic in the promotion tournament.

The Wildcard

Much like Pridestalker, ROCCAT didn’t have the greatest start to the 2017 Spring Split. Their 7-series losing streak put the team at the very bottom of the EU LCS standings, and fans were already prepared to write them off as a failure. However, after bringing in a sports psychologist, Team ROCCAT has unexpectedly bounced back with a string of victories, culminating in a win against previously undefeated G2. It was too late for ROCCAT to make it to Playoffs, but the fact that they managed to relegation already seemed like a miracle.

Everyone on the team played their part in this upswing but the biggest contributor was the jungler, Maxlore. His 2.6 KDA and 4.7 CS per minute don’t do him justice, as Maxlore’s form in the second half of the season easily put him in the top-5 of the EU LCS junglers. But with him leaving the team to join Misfits, there was now a hole that neede to be filled. And Team ROCCAT filled it with Pridestalker.

Sporting a 7.2 KDA and 5.8 CS per minute over eight games in the promotion tournament, Pridestalker was a force nature that was quick to take over games. His best performances happened on champions like Graves, Rengar, and Kha’Zix when the rookie jungler could set up plays and dish out massive damage.

Of course, there’s always a risk in recruiting a Challenger player to your team. Even if Pridestalker has been impressive, no one can guarantee that his hot streak will continue. And considering that the meta is constantly changing, his pocket picks may very well go out of favor by the time he gets to play in the EU LCS. Still, on paper, he looks like a pretty good replacement.

The only issue is that we don’t know what role Maxlore played on this team. If the things he was in charge of were objective control and jungle pathing, then we have no doubt that Pridestalker will be able to take on this role. But if Maxlore was also fulfilling shot calling duties, then it’d be a mistake to expect a rookie to do the same.
