Unicorns of Love vs Splyce – EU LCS Preview

Unicorns of Love are desperately trying to catch up to H2K! But to do so, they first have to go through Splyce.

It’s been a messy season for UOL. After going all the way to the finals of Rift Rivals, Unicorns are the only European attendees that haven’t shown any significant improvements. Their play is riddled with the same mistakes—a weak mid lane presence, a sluggish early game, and a high dependence on teamfighting.

If Splyce is looking to repeat Fnatic’s story of bouncing back after kicking {LINK TO COACH ROSTER MOVE} their coach, it just might be crazy enough to work. The only issue here is that Splyce’s draft and macro were never the issues. In fact, their lineup is very well-rounded in terms of strategy and synergy but falls through when it comes to sheer firepower.

Match Preview

Top Lane Matchup

There’s no denying that Wunder can show up. But it’s also evident that he has a hard time picking up new champions and adapting to the meta changes. With a 3.2 KDA and 8.6 CS per minute, Splyce’s top laner is a potential carry that’s waiting to be unlocked, although he’s far too shaky to pull through on a consistent basis.

Vizicsacsi is his polar opposite. This man is all about playing the meta and picking what’s best for the team even if it hurts his chances in lane. Sporting a 2.5 KDA and 8.6 CS per minute, he’s the solid foundation of the Unicorns’ lineup.

Verdict: UOL Vizicsacsi takes over the top lane.

Jungle Matchup

Trashy has been doing much better recently. After spending half of the 2017 season trying to adapt to the hyper-aggressive meta, Splyce’s jungler finally had the in-game balance shift in his favor. With a 3.9 KDA and 4.4 CS per minute, Trashy is a controlled jungler that works best on picks that can play off his teammates.

But no amount of meta changes will contain Xerxe. Sporting a 5.8 KDA and 4.8 CS per minute, UOL’s jungler is a miracle worker that seamlessly finds the right routes and outplay opportunities.

Verdict: UOL Xerxe conquers the jungle.

Mid Lane Matchup

As much as we would like to say that UOL Exileh is getting better, that isn’t the case. With a 2.3 KDA and 7.8 CS per minute, he’s barely keeping up with most EU LCS mid laners, and his only redeeming feature is his teamfighting.

And while Splyce’s Sencux might not be the best mid laner in the league, he’s definitely up there. Holding a 4.6 KDA and 8.8 CS per minute, he’s a very well-rounded player that combines a strong laning phase with explosive skirmishing.

Verdict: SPY Sencux strikes back in the mid lane.

Bot Lane Matchup

It was not long ago that we’d call UOL’s bottom lane mediocre. And while the support—Hylissang—can still be hit-or-miss with his wild picks and a middling KDA of 2.9, his AD carry is absolutely crushing it. Sporting a 5.7 KDA and 8.7 CS per minute, Samux is a mechanical monster that makes his presence known in every teamfight.

Unfortunately for them, Splyce’s duo is also formidable. With a 4.8 KDA and 9.0 CS per minute, Kobbe is a solid marksman both in lane and out of it, while Mikyx (4.0 KDA) covers him with a range of solid showings on Thresh and Braum. In the end, Splyce has the—ever so slightly—better duo.

Verdict: SPY’s Kobbe and Mikyx edge out a win in the bot lane.

Splyce can go toe-to-toe with Unicorns in the laning phase, but that won’t be enough to win them the series. Unless Sencux dismantles Exileh in the laning phase, it will be extremely difficult for Splyce to break open the game, and UOL will come back with their dominant teamfighting. Hence, we’re predicting a 2-1 victory for Unicorns of Love!
