League of Legends EU LCS Quarterfinal Preview: Unicorns of Love vs Giants Gaming
Wow, Unicorns of Love vs Giants Gaming is the first quarterfinal match in the EU LCS this year. If you recall, these two teams were in the very bottom of my first week of Power Rankings. Somehow, they turned their seasons around and are now in the running to win the entire LCS. This match is actually a lot more interesting than it seems due to placing – the winner of this series could make the playoffs a whole lot easier for either G2 or Splyce. It’s no secret that Giants Gaming and Unicorns of Love aren’t the greatest teams in the league, but the bracket makes things incredibly interesting. If Unicorns of Love win, G2 automatically plays them and Splyce plays the winner of H2k and Fnatic (having to play a winner in this bracket is much more of a challenge). However, if both Giants Gaming and Fnatic win (which is what I’m predicting), Splyce gets to play Giants Gaming, and G2 has to face Fnatic. Of course, H2k could ruin this all, but we’ll talk about that later. For now, let’s break down the upcoming Giants Gaming and Unicorns of Love matchup.
Just by looking at KDA’s, it’s clear that Giants Gaming is superior when it comes to gameplay. Every single position was at least .5 KDA higher than the Unicorns of Love players, and it didn’t stop there. Kill participation was higher overall, CS was better, and each position had better overall stats than Unicorns of Love. If stats won games, it’s clear that Giants Gaming would decimate Unicorns of Love. But stats aren’t the most important thing in League of Legends, gameplay is. Unicorns of Love has stepped up their game lately, and they won the matches that needed to be won. They’re doing well in high pressure games, which is much needed for playoff games. The one thing that Unicorns of Love have on their side is momentum. The team just swept Splyce, and they are ready to do the same to Giants Gaming.
Even with taking all of this into account, I still see Giants Gaming coming out on top. Giants will win it in 4.
