As the deciding matches of the EU LCS are approaching, we’re more and more tempted to turn away from H2K. It’s not that they’ve even been doing bad—far from it—but stomping bottom-tier teams is nothing new for this lineup. On the other hand, whenever they face a serious foe, H2K still tend to fall apart.
But things haven’t been going great for Unicorns of Love either. Their entire lineup is weighed down by the abysmal showings from Exileh. And while the rest of the Unicorns know full well how to rotate and set up great 5v5s, it’s hard for them to play with a massive mid lane deficit.
Top Lane Matchup
If there’s one H2K player that’s always coming up with solid performances, it’s Odoamne. Holding a 4.5 KDA and 7.9 CS per minute, he’s the glue that holds the rest of this team together, and his top lane prowess is the cornerstone of H2K’s early game.
Unfortunately for him, Vizicsacsi has been fulfilling the same role on UOL, but with much better results. Sure, his 2.6 KDA and 8.1 CS per minute don’t look as impressive, but you’d be making a dire mistake by underestimating his laning phase. After all, he wasn’t named the 2017 Spring Split MVP for nothing.
Verdict: UOL Vizicsacsi takes the lead in the top lane.
There was a time when Jankos was the #1 jungler in the EU LCS, but new talent has since pushed him out of this position. With a 5.5 KDA and 4.4 CS per minute, Jankos is still a formidable player that can take over the early game, but he’s far from his First Blood King days.
Meanwhile, UOL’s Xerxe is on the rise. Sporting a 5.9 KDA and 5.0 CS per minute, he has a unique blend of aggression and creativity that allows him to constantly find new ways to snowball his laners.
Verdict: UOL Xerxe claims the jungle as his own.
Mid Lane Matchup
This is the main matchup of the series. UOL’s mid laner—Exileh—is the weakest link of his team with an abysmal 2.3 KDA and 7.8 CS per minute. That said he does have great synergy with his teammates, which means he’ll be able to pull through in teamfights if he can to make it through the laning phase.
The pressure will be on Febiven to not let that happen. With a massive 5.7 KDA and 9.1 CS per minute, H2K’s mid laner is a masterful laner that will make sure to exploit even the slightest misstep from his opponent.
Verdict: H2K Febiven breaks through the mid lane.
Bot Lane Matchup
Whenever someone mentions Unicrons’ bot lane, the name Samux always seems to come to mind. With a 5.6 KDA and 8.7 CS per minute, UOL’s marksman stepped up and became the main carry of this lineup. But the fact that he’s paired with Hylissang (3.0 KDA) means that Samux can never unleash his full potential due to playing with an extremely average support.
On the other hand, H2K’s duo of Nuclear and Chei is the very definition of rock solid. Sporting a 5.5 KDA and 8.7 CS per minute, Nuclear is a strong teamfighting AD carry that’s especially potent on utility-based picks while Chei (6.1 KDA) backs him up with a mix of tanks and playmakers.
Verdict: H2K’s Nuclear and Chei win the bot lane standoff.
H2K are on a clock here. If they can manage to get the snowball going in the mid lane, they can crush Unicorns of Love before the teamfighting starts. But if the game gets dragged out, H2K will quickly crumble under the pressure from UOL’s macro game. It’s going to be close, but in the end, H2K’s approach is a bit too transparent for UOL to fall for it several times in a row. Our prediction: a 2-1 victory for Unicorns of Love!
